"$blendtintbybasealpha" 1

I've been trying to use the command "$blendtintbybasealpha" "1" on some models to get only certain parts of the model to be colord when chaning FX Color but it won't work. The entire object is still being colored. I'm fairly sure my .vmt and alpha map are correct so the only reason I can think of for it not working is that it only works on the L4D engine. Anyone have any suggestions or does anyone know if it does in fact only work on the L4D engine?

EDIT: After a bit more searching I've found out that it is only available on the L4D Engine. We'll see about that...
