Reporting Key Presses to Console

Hi all,
Simple problem (I hope).

What I want to do is as follows:

1. Player presses the interact key in portal ('e')
2. Some entity registers that 'e' has been pressed and then passes this information to the console
3. Console writes out the message that has been appropriated to pressing 'e'

So far, I've got entity for Writing Information to the Console already in place but I don't know know of an entity that can look for keyboard presses (or their mapped function for that matter). I had been playing with game_ui but hadn't gotten that to work; does anyone have any suggestions?
