Merge/Integrate custom sounds/textures into the .bsp file

Postby c0ldpr0xy on Wed May 22, 2013 4:03 am

Ello. So is it possible to merge all the custom sounds into the .bsp file so that when I send it to someone on another PC, they don't need the extra sounds/textures. Assuming I am making a map for HL2 and the other person also has HL2 but without the custom materials. Thanks.

Use Pakrat

You can pretty much just use the Auto button.

Unless it was updated since I last used it, Pakrat doesn't properly package sound files when you use the auto scan function. In fact, I don't think it picks up sound files at all. I believe you have to manually add them, then edit their directories (pretty simple) so that they embed properly. I think the same goes for custom script files (detail sprites, soundscapes, etc.), but I could be wrong.

But yes, Pakrat is what you want. You'll need to have the Java Runtime Environment installed to use it, however. There's like one or two alternatives out there but I think Pakrat is the most solid program overall.
