I converted my HL2 content to steampipe and it gave me all sorts of problems. Firstly, it wouldn't let me open the SDk in anything other then the vanilla HL2. Apparently steampipe moved the gameinfo.txt files for the episodes from the username to the common folder, so I moved them back. That allowed me to launch Ep2 in the SDK, but I couldn't open files in it. I looked around and found that they'd also gotten rid of the ToolsApp_Id code line for the episodic gameinfo files for some reason, so I added that back in too.

So now I can launch the Ep2 sdk and open and compile files in it; however, the framerate in hammer is shaky now. More importantly, when I try to put Ep2 assets (like hunters) in there I still get error messages, as if I had opened the file in the vanilla half life 2 sdk. I suspect that this has something to do with the gameino.txt as well, but I'm not sure what it is. Does anybody know? Thanks.

Why did you not just link Source Software Development Kit to the new location? Instead of moving the new location back to the old location?

I got fed up with it and reverted back from steampipe until they sort this out, it's the best option instead of trying to find work a rounds.

Hey how did you revert back from steam pipe? I opted in and it wrecked my hammer, however when i go back to properties and hit opt out of all betas nothing happens and I still have steampipe content. Please let me know how you reverted!

You can simply opt out of the steampipe beta by going to the game's properties / betas / opt out

The old gcf's should still be there unless you deleted them manually.

Opt out and manually delete all the files then reinstall

Whether or not you're all aware, there's now a solid, Valve created fix for post-Steampipe for the poor suckers like me that have been forced to use it.

All Source games under common now have a /bin/ folder (supposed to be /bin/tools, but whatever), within which you'll find Hammer and the various other tools.

For Half-Life 2 and iterations (Ep1, Ep2) just go to common/half life 2/bin and run Hammer. It will load all relevant content including episodes (at least mine did, but I had messed around with the gameinfo under half life 2/ep2 and added every steamapp reference I needed for Stroll).

Notable glitches include alpha channels being inverted even on non-displacement surfaces, and lack of transparency on alphas in-Hammer, but we've had worse.

I can't speak for other Source games, but that's it. The SDK Lawnchair is dead for the time being. Launch Hammer manually.

What Major Banter said. The problem with hammer is that it is the modern version (it includes the scupt and the radius cordon tool) and therefore works in software mode (is not hardware accelerated). Another problem is that when you compile a map and launch it it will launch HL2 and not EP2. HL2 now loads all EP2 content but it´s not what you want. You have to compile your map with "dont run the game after compiling" and then launch Ep2 manually.

Thanks guys! I was having trouble starting Hammer with EP2 configurations from the SDK, but starting from the bin works and I've had no problems... yet... actually it even solved one issue I had

This update makes me think we will have a long wait for Source 2, if this wasn't the case Valve would not go to all this trouble to update this version.
