Missing or invalid configuration information

Postby daemonbadger on Tue Jun 11, 2013 3:59 pm

Hi everyone, I used to come on here many years ago, and have recently got back into mapping & been doing a few bits and bobs in the ld42 authoring tools.

But when I came to use the Source SDK to try my hand at TF2 stuff, every time I try to open hammer it just pops up a warning box saying "The configuration information for the game you're trying to edit is invalid or missing."

From what I remembered from what I used to do resetting the game configurations, running TF2 and running the SDK used to fix that problem, but it doesn't seem to have, and I searched about for it, and others said to do that, but its not worked :S

The warning dialog box has a run anyway button, but if i click that another warning box comes up saying
"setup fil 'gameinfo.txt' doesnt exist in the subdirectory"

Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou

I think you're missing a block in the file 'GameConfig.txt', which for me, is located here:
Code: Select all
F:\Steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin

My 'Team fortress 2' block looks like this:

Code: Select all
      "Team Fortress 2"
      {
         "GameDir"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\team fortress 2\tf"
         "hammer"
         {
            "GameData0"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\tf.fgd"
            "TextureFormat"      "5"
            "MapFormat"      "4"
            "DefaultTextureScale"      "0.250000"
            "DefaultLightmapScale"      "16"
            "GameExe"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\team fortress 2\hl2.exe"
            "DefaultSolidEntity"      "func_detail"
            "DefaultPointEntity"      "info_player_teamspawn"
            "BSP"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vbsp.exe"
            "Vis"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vvis.exe"
            "Light"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vrad.exe"
            "GameExeDir"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\team fortress 2"
            "MapDir"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\sourcesdk_content\tf\mapsrc"
            "BSPDir"      "f:\steam\steamapps\nrno2001@yahoo.dk\team fortress 2\tf\maps"
            "CordonTexture"      "tools\toolsskybox"
            "MaterialExcludeCount"      "0"
         }
      }

            "BSPDir"      "c:\program files\steam\steamapps\st_jimmy9716\team fortress 2\tf\maps"
            "GameData0"      "c:\program files\steam\steamapps\st_jimmy9716\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\tf.fgd"

Have you tried pressing this button?

Also, be sure to select the right engine version.

Yeah That and the game configurations were the two 1st things I tried.
Just re-installing it now to make sure its not anything daft, but I can't see that working tbh.
