Hey, I noticed valve recently updated their games and moved them to the common folder(among other stuff).

When I run the hammer.exe in
Code: Select all
D:/Steam/steamapps/common/Half-Life 2/bin
the map loads correctly but my models in the 2D view have missing textures(black and purple checkerboard). I opted into the beta for steam and opted into the beta for all HL2 games.

I followed this post, but it did not help.

I have noticed there are multiple different hammers. Seems like one for each game. In this case there should be a hammer in common/half-life2/bin I have this problem as well where the models in the 2D View are also black and purple but display correct in the 3D view.

Someone mentioned to use the hammer at common/source SDK Base 2013/bin the models in the 2D view will display correct I can confirm that it does but for me the model viewer (the place where you choose your models) is in black for me.I thought it should be green. I probably need to read the thread you have posted. So perhaps the one to use is SDK 2013.

I am sorry I cannot give more advice, my self am confused by all these different hammers I don't even know which is the one to use the hl2 hammer or SDK 2013 hammer they seem the same with some slight differences.

I copied hammer.exe from source2013/bin to hl2/bin and it works quite great except by the black model viewer (which isnt a big deal anyway)

Ah this is a good compromise to the 2D missing model textures. I don't mind the model viewer too much. Thanks!

But I have another problem. When I play my map in Epi2 the sides of my skybox texture, not the top and bottom, are missing its texture(black and purple checkerboard). I am using the skybox texture "sky_day01_09" without the quotations.

Can anyone help me on that problem?

I am who submitted that issue. They won´t come with a solution. You should replace your skybox by the HDR version, they say. But it´s not the same skybox. My solution was to extract the skybox from the proper .GCF file and put it in my custom folder. A botch.

Note: It also affects Day01_1 and all other skies that were replaced when Half life 2 got engine update, back in 2010.

"sky_day01_09_hdr" is not the same as "sky_day01_09"?

No, It is not. They have a very similar color scheme and a moon, but that´s all. In maps like Ravenholm the new sky seems to work great. In user maps, at least in my map, the new sky has a different moon position and the fog (which was carefully set for the old skybox) doesnt match the sky and it looks horrible.
