Faceposer Steampipe

Postby Riomaki on Tue Jul 23, 2013 5:12 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew what the deal was with Faceposer and Steampipe. When I try running hlfaceposer.exe out of the /bin folder, I get the interface and everything, but there are some issues:

1. Load Model drops me into the standard Windows file open box. I thought it used to bring up the old VGUI model browser? Either way, I have no models to load.

2. So, I extracted a model from episode two content.gcf (the Vortigaunt) and all related files and placed them in a models sub-folder of Ep2. When I open this .mdl file in Faceposer, I see all of the gestures and options for it, but the model itself appears to be a jumbled mess of white polygons.

Is Faceposer busted, or is there some trick to making it work and load models correctly these days?

I get your first problem, but since last time I used Faceposer, I left some models open, i can access those by clicking at their tabs in the bottom right. The problem I have is that I can only load my own choreographies. Whenever I want to load one from the game It loads but it´s completely empty.

Thanks for opening a bug about it on the Github - I would have done the same, but wanted to confirm that I wasn't the only one seeing this.

Assuming you had models already open, you see them appear correctly in the 3D view? I certainly wouldn't put it past myself that I probably extracted the Vortigaunt incorrectly.

There seems to be a failure to communicate between scenes and the new folder hierarchy. In Hammer itself, I can only see the scenes that came with sourcesdk_content - any .vcd files from the game itself do not appear in the list. However, if I know the filename, I can manually type it in and the game will actually play it.

I'm sure there are plenty of differences, but sometimes I honestly wish they incorporated .vcd creation into the more actively developed Source Filmmaker... ¬_¬
