func_rotating problem

Postby oliilo1 on Fri Aug 09, 2013 7:24 pm

I'm trying to make a wall for imaginary commercials with changing posters.

I have broken the posters up in six func_rotating brushes.

The problem arises when I put 90 on max rotation speed (degrees per second)
And the time it should spend rotating on 1 second.

By any logic this would turn the square brushes 90 degrees, and show me the next poster on the func_rotating.

But each time it rotates it always misses by a few degrees, and after a few minutes the whole wall is crooked.

It's hard to explain in words, but load up my map and check it out.

Is there a way to get it to be more precise? to have the square func_rotating to go exactly 90 degrees every 5th second.

Your map won't open for me. So I made my own. Though I wanted it to be smooth so I used 96 entities :D

Mine is exact with the movement, even if it cycles a thousand times, despite their being like 6 different speeds used. Since with momentary_rot_button we can set the exact angle with the input SetPosition 0-1. ( 90° = 0.25 )

Beutifull. exactly the way I wanted mine to be.
I started with a simple one and were going to advance it once I got it working properly.

Going to try out momentary_rot_button now. Thanks.

Any chance of uploading the vmf file? I'm having a few problems with the settings of it.

mine only turn 90 degrees, then go back.

Edit: I've had a lot of progress with just playing around with the different options. but is there a way from prevent it from returning to 0 degrees by reversing?

Before I set it to the second panel(0.25), I used SetPositionImmediately 0.

By the way, using 90-something entities is probably very excessive. I did it out of boredom. It's not really practical. 90x4 is 360 brushsides. It's probably a lot of wasted ent data and network overhead. And a pain in the ass to texture.

Yea, its excessive, but I think it would look nicer.

Anyways, its the SetPositionImmediately 0 that did the trick. Didn't think of it.

Thank you very much.

No problem. I really liked how it came out and it wasn't much of a challenge to get working. Have fun mapping!
