bspzip not working

Postby rektolisk on Sun Aug 11, 2013 6:41 pm

Hey, I have just tried packing some custom materials into my map using bspzip and it went through fine saying that the files were added and also the new bsp file has increased in file size, but when I open my map in-game, the materials are purple and black. I am not sure where I have gone wrong, does anyone have any ideas, I'll post what I used below:

I am using the bspzip from the half-life 2 bin since the map is for Garry's mod.

Command
C:\Users\AJ>"F:\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\bin\bspzip.exe" -addlist "F:\
3D Environments\Horror Map\GM_Essence.bsp" "F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\packin
g.txt" "F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\packed\GM_Essence.bsp"

Valve Software - bspzip.exe (Jul 11 2013)
Opening bsp file: F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\GM_Essence.bsp
Adding file: F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\Instructions.vtf
Adding file: F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\Instructions.vmf
Adding file: F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\ThankYou.vtf
Adding file: F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\ThankYou.vmf
Writing new bsp file: F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\packed\GM_Essence.bsp

List File
materials\GM_Essence\Instructions.vtf
F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\Instructions.vtf
materials\GM_Essence\Instructions.vmf
F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\Instructions.vmf
materials\GM_Essence\ThankYou.vtf
F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\ThankYou.vtf
materials\GM_Essence\ThankYou.vmf
F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\ThankYou.vmf

Check the file paths. If the stuff is in the BSP, then it seems the game can't find them.

The paths in the list file are right since I got them by doing right-click>properties and then copying the location and then adding the file to the end.

Also, this is how I have the VMF's:

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "GM_Essence\Instructions.vtf"
}

I set the folder as GM_Essence since I am telling the list file to create the GM_Essence folder, is that correct?

EDIT

I just changed my list file and the VMF files, so there is just the single material folder being made and then the VMFs point to the file in there but still nothing in-game.

materials\Instructions.vtf
F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\Instructions.vtf
materials\Instructions.vmf
F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\Instructions.vmf
materials\ThankYou.vtf
F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\ThankYou.vtf
materials\ThankYou.vmf
F:\3D Environments\Horror Map\Materials\ThankYou.vmf

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "materials\Instructions.vtf"
}

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "materials\ThankYou.vtf"
}

I have now fixed this issue and got my custom materials working. It's a shame there was nobody with any knowledge on this subject to help. Thanks Sathor for giving it a shot, appreciate the reply.

Did you open the bsp and make sure the files and directories are in their correct locations?
