Random placement of entities.

Any aspects of level design for the Source engine.

Random placement of entities.

Wasn't / Isn't there a method to randomly place entities on the map?

I thought there was - if someone could remind me that'd be great.

IIRC left4dead2 example maps had a setup for that.

I seem to remember it was a feature in hammer - like placing down foliage randomly.

Nope, hammer doesn't have a tool to distribute/paint vegetation.

It's possible, but not through hammer, but the VDC documentation does not recommend using models. Now if it's true that it's that bad that I don't know. Never tested it.
I remember reading that "occluders" should be used sparingly (that they basically sucked). Occluders are kick ass frame rate raisers if used wisely.

Cheaty way is using the antlion grub model with random yaw enabled, then spamming them all over the map and using the entity finder to select them and change the model. This will be a performance killer if used unoptimised.

Good idea though nonetheless - thanks!

I once had to place 400+ random foliage and rock props for an SFM project, this was a real timesaver.
