Map from blender to hammer

Postby Garret on Sun Jan 26, 2014 1:24 am

Hello, is there any way to make map in blender (without textures, props and things like that) and later import that in hammer? I tried to export to .map from blender but when i opened this in hammer there was error "invalid block index".

I don't know what to tell you, I am not any good at modeling but I am awesome when it comes to hammer editor, and I think your best bet would be just to build your level in Hammer editor (Its intention) or make that blender level into a prop then put it in, all you have to do is make a hallow box around the level with the nodraw or skybox texture so hammer will know where the level is for compiling right, although, i don't how you would texture it in hammer, you could export all the textures you wan't to use from the source game with GCFScape for use in Blender.

there is no way to make maps in blender and import them into hammer, you can do maps in 3ds max and import them to hammer, but you cant do that in blender.

the only thing you can do with blender is import maps as a .DXF file, if blender supports this file format

Blender as I know does not import or export DXF or VMF files. One can export from Blender as a smd file (studio model data) to hammer, also needing a QC file and physics/collision mesh. It is not possible to export a model's mesh from Blender and then try and texture it in Hammer. That I guess is due to Hammer not having any kind of UV mapping tools for models.

I suppose you could create a complex model/map and export it in some other file format that could be read in another program that could export in VMF or DXF.

The current method that I understand would be to use brushes in Hammer to block out a basic structure to your level. Then use models to add details that are unique to that level.
