Back to mapping, two hammer problems

Postby hen7 on Thu Jan 30, 2014 9:34 am

Hey guys, been a while, 4 years since I last posted here.
I stopped mapping in 2010 after releasing my mod Nightmare House 2, which I got some help with in here back then.
I recently went back to mapping for fun, but encountered two problems with the new (post steampipe) hammer.

The main problem is that upon clicking on the Flags tab in entity properties hammer has a huge chance to crash, this happens in every map, even in an empty one, mostly after I visit the Flags tab of the third or fourth time.

The second problem is that when editing brushes, my mouse cursor doesn't change into the move/resize/etc cursor when I need to edit a brush in the 2d view, as not major as it sounds this is extremely frustrating and slows down my work flow in tons, causing me to always miss the brushes I want to edit.

Any help will be very appreciated, I really want to get back to mapping.
Thanks

Are you using the outdated Source SDK or the hammer.exe from bin?
Also, what game? HL2? Ep2? 2013 SP?

Hey, I'm using the hammer.exe inside the bin folder in common/half life 2 (it's damn sweet not having to use the SDK thing anymore!), I also completely removed the folder, had steam re-download the whole thing, verified, updated, etc.
I am working on EP2, however I noticed all problems above also happens in HL2, EP1, etc.

Also, how do I set it to 2013 SP? do I need a mod for it? (right now I'm compiling my maps to EP2)

You can download the Source 2013 Singleplayer from Tools. Just run it once and then you can start using the hammer from the bin of the 2013 folder. You need to actually put the .bsp into the game folder where you want to play.
(If you're mapping for ep2, you compile and move the .bsp over into the ep2 maps folder and launch ep2 to test it)

It's the least buggiest but it's still a bit buggy. Steampipe also fucked up cubemaps, that's a bit tricky to fix. But here's the files and tutorial: http://steamcommunity.com/app/211/discu ... 155287479/

If you want to build a mod using 2013 you need to get the base mod files from Github: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/source-sdk-2013

I had this error

basically it taught me to save whenever I was about to modify the entity.

it was fixed when I have reinstalled steam and made a fresh instal of it on new hard drive.
I dont know other solution than this
