How to make a prop fly past a window multiple times?

Any aspects of level design for the Source engine.

How to make a prop fly past a window multiple times?

Postby boj on Mon May 26, 2014 3:13 pm

I have a TF2 space map I'm trying to make and I want to give it the illusion that it's moving through space.

Is there a way I could have a few asteroids or something go flying by the window and then going back to the start and doing it again?

For example... if it were something on the ground, I'd want trees to be going past over and over again.

I'm thinking something like in that ctf map where there's those two huge missile transporters and they're driving through this canyon infinitely.

Have point_template spawn func_tracktrains that follow a certain path. Then with logic_timer you spawn them randomly. Simple. Make sure to delete ones that get to the end.

even simpler. Create a loop of multiple path_tracks and for the first one check the 'teleport to THIS path_track' flag.

Also, if they're brush based. Try to make multiple meteors as the same func_track trains. The more networked entities the more demanding your map is perf wise.

You can also have very distant ones as large scrolling textures. So they're entirely client side.
