Setup up a server.

Does anyone know how to set up a server for Counter Strike Source?

at the bottom of your games list double click on source dedicated server

or go to create server in css then when your in type sv_lan 0 in the console

And Cr4igs way I cant see the server in the find servers list. So I try to connect to it by going connect <ip> and it says failed after 4 retrys. So I try changing the map and I get this error in the console:

Executing dedicated server config file
couldn't exec server.cfg

does the server need its own steam account that has hl2 on it?

now that's impossible, it always says that when you create a server, but it still works

what is a server config and where can I get it? I looking for a dedicated server by the way.

just run the dedicated server from the tools in steam, then you just need to type sv_lan 0 in the console. Also make shore your firewall is disabled

The whole idea of a dedicated server, is the machine in use cannot conect. Hence the word "dedicated" So if you host a dedicated server other ppl can connect but you cannot unless you use another machine.

when i test my maps i just do the old 'map blah' in console and ive actually had people join it and im quite obviously like 'wtf'.

but then when i want to show a map to a mate it dont work and he cant see the server in steam

So there is no way I can play and test my map with other players?

Yeha just open up hl2dm or cs:s click on create a server choose your map.

Once it has loaded type in the console "sv_cheats 1" then type in "sv_lan 0"

Then type status grab your ip give it to your mates and get em to connect using the console command which is "connect (ip goes here)

That should do the trick.
