As of November 2009 Steam will shut done after enduring several lawsuits from multiple game companies. Ubisoft and Activison have sued Steam of illegally distributing games through the steam application. Members are able to illegally add games using serial numbers given to steam users. The Lawsuit ended with Ubisoft and Activision winning the case and Steam has until November 2009 to shut down.

If this would be true, the news would have spread all over the net by now.
But Wikipedia isn't a relyable source for such things.
I could write up a text pretending the World will end tomorrow, including some "evidence" and post it on there.

Activision is a part of Blizzard and Blizzard come up with bNet 2.0 which will be nearly the same. Fake #1
Ubisoft is a Steam publisher. so FAKE #2

And why the hell should Valve shutdown Steam, without any official note on Steam or anywhere else??
