Modern Warfare 2 - No Dedicated Servers?

On the same token, I'm not sure Alex Royce has much say on what goes on at IW, yet Spas was asserting that Alex/the company should tell people what's going on about dedicated servers. He can't make comments on something he has no control over.

The one question I saw Alex Royce keep asking is "what are they missing by not having dedicated servers?"

This means that if I'm expected to host then my machine has to be fast enough to run the game and also process the other connections from other players on my machine on my HOME connection. The host is always going to have the advantage because of latency issues. Unless IW is going to create fake lag on the host to simulate a "fair" fight against other players, I don't see how this is suppose to work. At least with dedicated servers, a clan can pick a location for their server that is approximately a center location from all their members. This way they should all have similar pings when they play together. With one person hosting, that host is going to have an advantage. So are clans now expected to pick a non-clan, objective referee host that is central to all the people playing to avoid the host having an advantage?

I don't know who this guy is but he's a douche.
I live in the middle east. There's no way I can play on EU or USA servers with normal ping rates. There only way for me to go MP is to get in a dedicated server with friends. And I'm sure that a lot of players around the world who aren't living in the US will have it the same. He doesn't know what he's talking about. I'll be getting half a game unless they give me dedicated servers.

And also, IW spat in my eye by saying that my gamimg machine isn't worth the effort. I'm not so sure I want to play their games at all right now. They're nothing but greedy bastards it seems, and suddenly paying 60$ for their 4-5 hours modern warfare games is not as hot as it seemed in 2007

If I wanted to play it like a console, I'D BUY IT FOR MY CONSOLE. I didn't pay £1,000 for my gaming rig to NOT play on 50-slot servers. We need a real, organised boycott group to go over to IW HQ and show them why they SHOULDN'T fuck with the "browse and connect" method.

Dedicated servers versus "hosted by some guy through matchmaking":

• Dependable performance and ping.
• Ability handle larger numbers of people.
• Games don't asplode when the hosting player has to go eat dinner.
• No single player has a built-in ping advantage.
• Community self-policing (via bans, etc) becomes feasible, since you don't need fifteen people to add the same griefer to a banlist.
• You can just hop on a favorite server and have a decent experience even if none of your "friends" are playing right now.
• Possibly scriptable fixes to prevent exploits, fix game bugs, or block griefing.
• Custom maps.

From developer point of view.

MW1 have no moding community. And by moding, I mean total conversions, additional single player campaigns, etc. Not just server side scripting.

I hope it will sell well on pc this time. Or we wont see MW3 on our platform at all.

MW2 runs through Steam (it uses VAC) and IWNet is in-game, I assume.

I still don't get it...but death threads? That's probably anonymous' (4chan's) work, not the regular fans. Anonymous has targeted specific groups/people like that all the time and made death threads to them.

I love this news I mean seriously I brought mw on the pc and was totally disappointed with the multiplayer I couldn't find a server in which someone had decided to allow 50-60 people to join. This lead to most annoying games and eventually I ended up buying it on the xbox and loved it. I can kinda see the point of dedicated servers but most of the time people just fuck up the game with their shitty server side modifications that ruin the game for me. I just want to play the game I brought I don't want to play some mod that a 5 year made were we jump 1000 feet in the air and shoot rockets. Also I know most of you are pro dedicated server so it will properly cause massive flames posting this but I seriously just want the devs to know that I agree with them totally on this move.
