Metro 2033

Postby Dionysos on Wed Oct 28, 2009 1:50 am

I post this, even though information and media on the game is scarce, because it is based on the novel Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky which I actually read some time ago and which I found absolutely terrific and great and awesome. Read it if you like post-apocalyptic well thought-out horror nom-nom.

Also, the game seems like it might be good, even though there's always that fear of it not doing the book justice.

Yes, read it (I think) two years ago.

I liked it then, but in retrospect the book was a bit game-like. What I mean is, I could imagine EVERYTHING happening in some game like Stalker. It is excellent entertainment material, but not something very deep. I guess you can find an analysis of a common homo sapiens if you read between the lines, but I dunno.

The game went quiet for the last year but it looks like they are pulling for a release soon.

I should mention that there's a sequel to Metro 2033, called - guess what - Metro 2034.

SPOILERS:
Highlight to read:
PS: The ending for the first book was easy to guess, IMO. There probably isn't an original way to end the book with the given plot, but he (the author) could have put more effort into confusing the reader.

I really loved the Kremlin bio-organism. This fluid entity of no particular shape or form. Reminds me of Solaris' ocean.

Oh gawd that looks EPIC.

Looks like an awesome mix of Fallout 3 and Stalker, both are games that I enjoyed and still enjoy from time to time. I can't wait to see more about this.

I believe some of the devs on this are from the STALKER team, and THQ also published the original STALKER so it's very easy to draw comparisons. It will be interesting to see whether this can top the new STALKER.

Sent angry email to THQ asking why it isn't on PS3.

They've chosen the two big pirating software media interfaces and will lose some serious cash.

Ah well. I had my childish moment for the day.

I'm really getting tired of post-apoc stuff. It's cool for awhile, but you can only see so many ruined cities before they look all the damn same.

It's just the fad now. It was Space Marines 5 years ago, now it's post-apocalyptic environments.

So instead of creating a new thread, I'm bumping this.

Shit looks amazing, releases on steam 16 March 2010, anyone else getting it? I know I will, fuck I love the look of it, I'm a big fan of Stalker so I'm really hyped about this already.

I can't stand the horribly fake russian accents, tbh. I am only playing this in russian.

Also, the whole point of the novel was said in the trailer. The nature of the Dark ones is revealed at the very end, like, last page.

I'm not sure how much it's based on the novel, but my guess is that the story is just loosely based on the setting.

I definitely won't be paying $50 unless the majority of the community says it's worth it. I don't want another disappointment like Clear Sky. If this is another classic like the first STALKER was, then hell yeah I'll buy it.

It looks promising, but it doesn't look absolutely stunning and it seems like there could be some aspects that make the game mediocre. I can't make any conclusions of course.

TL;DR

I'll just wait for feedback.
