@ Vcool, according to RPS, the in game voice acting is pretty top-notch but even then you can play in Russian with English subtitles.

@Phott, THQ have said that the story is of huge importance to the game.

@nub, It's unfair to compare it to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., other than the Eastern-European origin and setting, nothing is particularly similar. The RPS article claims it more similar to the Call of Duty games.

No, it's not the quality of it. The russian accents are obviously faked - and that is what I find annoying as a russian speaker. Maybe for you silly westerners it gives authenticity, for me it's just annoying. You can hear that it's way too deliberate (if you listen carefully a few times, the voice actor's proper english pronunciation slips a little) and I don't know why but it irks me.

But yes, I am defo playing this in russian - if I am playing it that is.

Oh and on the bright side, getting a licensed russian copy in Ukraine would cost me much less. I might be going there towards the end of the summer, although I might not, but if I do I am going to get the game there.

I too am definitely playing this in russian. Either speak english or russian.

I doubt very much that it will be like stalker, if they follow the book closely it should be a lot more linear. But then regarding the trailer I've seen, I don't remember Artjom shooting that much... I hope they don't sacrifice story for action.

I'm really getting tired of post-apoc stuff. It's cool for awhile, but you can only see so many ruined cities before they look all the damn same.

Also, this doesn't look fun to me. Nothing in the trailer stood out at all. Just, "meh".

That's so promising considering how awesomely horrible MW2's campaign was.

I do not have high-hopes for this. I estimate this get's a mid to high 60's on the score. PROVE ME WRONG THQ. And I hope they do. Good games are good.

They made Sonic Advance on the GBA. That was kinda cool when I was 13.

I finished the game yesterday, and I have to say we can all learn a lesson about creating atmosphere from that game. It sucks you in so hard that it's impossible not to get emotionally involved.
It isn't a long game, so I would recommend it to everyone, even those of you who have little time.
And the ending was really great, however it ends for you, it's very good.

I too finished it yesterday, and must say I it was a very positive experience. Although the mutant-AI was on a par with that of a three-year old child, the enviorments and atmostphere were filled to the brim with small details that really contributes to the experience.
I especially enjoyed the final level and, even though you are topside several times during the game, felt that it was very alien and hostile.
One of the more annoying aspects of the game were the interactive cutscenes, and now I'm not talking about the "SPAMMMZ "E"!!!!!!!", but those where the camera took control, thought you still had to push forward. The only one i remember is the one in the chapter "Catacombs", or somthing. You had a vision, and at the end of a row of three visions, the camera takes control over the player. Having played though CoD4 a few days before, I leant back and prepared to watch a scene ala the end of the first chapter of CoD4. But I was killed.
Second try. Dead.
Only upon looking at a walkthough, I found out that I had to press "W".
There was also something else that bothered me. But I forgot.

I think that if you look behind you at that point, it'll be pretty clear that you have to run foreward... But maybe I forgot. Anyway this is the kind of game that sticks with you after it's over.

But it isn't perfect either, still this is a small Ukraine developer, but they did a spectacular job on Gameplay, Atmosphere and Graphics (if your PC can carry that burden). By the way it's 50% on Steam until tomorrow, you might want to hit that chance!

After reading the book (before) and completing the game (later) I concluded that someone who didn't read the book cant possibly understand shit from the ending, and someone who has read the book has a very little chance to understand the ending (of the book or the game). The book says very little about the Dark Ones and their role, and the game says even less. As a result the main storyline feels like an unnecessary addition to the most important thing, which is presenting the societies of the underground.

How did you feel about the last level, the where you climb the tower? That dawn, coupled with the view and hostility of the universe was something I'll remeber for a long time.

Bought this on a whim after seeing it was half off on Steam this weekend.

Figure if it has even 4-6 hours of mediocre gameplay, its worth 25 bucks.

Generally the visuals were exactly like I imagined when reading the book. They did a good job on recreating the atmosphere, and the last level is no exception.
