How does this differ from UnrealEd and the sorts?

It has the new updated feature and you make commercial products out of this although you have to give epic 25% when you start earning more than $5000.

While this is good, it seems like a small cry for help. UT3 was somewhat of a loss commercially from my opinion, and less games are using their engine, so I think they're trying to get it out more. Anyone else sense this?

I thought UDK sucked.

Bit bizarre coming from someone who mapped with it for 2 and a half years, but whatever. It did.

I see a lot of mods for the unreal engine in its various forms...UT 2004, UT 3, etc. I'm not even sure how many there are. I am not a fan of the pure death match feel of the UT series, but I would like to play The Ball. I haven't really been interested in buying any of those games, especially after a few swings at it on the consoles. But should I go ahead and buy it, for the sake of modding? And more to the point, should I learn this editor?

Well, I don't really have any experience with the new U3 engine, but the U2 engine was very popular and saw many great mods being created, and imo the community was more... well at least it made a more professional impression, over all. I'm also considering buying it just for the modding... well it'll have to wait a little while longer anyways. Sometimes I just get so frustrated with the limitations of the Source engine.

^ This. Everybody who is serious about level design and wants to become a professional should take up UE3 because it's so widely-used and it has a more - hmm - modern(?) workflow.

Great thing about this is you don't need UT3 to make mods and you release them as stand alone mods/games. It's essentially a free engine (as long as what you make for it release for free).

and tbh UE workflow > Source by a long shot.
Importing models and textures is childsplay in the Unreal Engine.

I think this is the very, very latest building of UE3 so it might include the fancy new material creator and LIGHTMASS! :D

I'm a bit peeved though because I only bought UT3 the other day to get access to the engine. /sadface

Did the same last month and I haven't had time to learn anything on it. Going to wait until I get a new computer though, anything I make would look like complete shit or lag unbearably on this computer.
