Weapon position trouble (TF2)

Postby Chemical Alia on Tue Nov 24, 2009 6:17 am

I'm working on two TF2 character mods as part of my master's project, and I've run into an issue when I look at the characters in-game. This is my first experience working with the Source engine, and I've been unable to resolve it after about a week of trial-and error. The issue is that the character's weapons are stuck in the center of the model and not attached to the weapon bones. The "character select" animations also do not play, though that may be unrelated.

I was having the same trouble with the Medic model, but when I loaded the game today, it seemed to be working (with the exception of no weapon animations playing), but I noticed this message repeated in the console. Not sure what is meant by "bone merge."

Code: Select all
Performance warning: Merge with 'weapons\w_models\w_medigun.mdl'. Mark bone 'weapon_bone_L' in model 'player/medic.mdl' as being used by bone merge in the .qc!

If anyone is familiar with this problem or has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'm nearly finished rigging them, and I'd like to offer them in an alpha state for some feedback as soon as possible, but this is a bit too wonky.

Also, my apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place!

It should mean you're missing weapon_bone or the attachments for said bone afaik.

Also your heavy's blue doesn't seem to match the other blues.

Hmm. I saw weapon bones being exported with the model, but I'll look more closely at the original model to see if something's missing. Like, in Unreal, there are sockets which the weapons connect to, wasn't sure if there's something similar in Source. (Also, don't mind the textures, there's some placeholder colors still and the normal maps are needing to be touched up a lot v: It's been a race, trying to get these things done by December.)

Thanks a bunch, I'll see how that goes.
