Is Valve working on Source Engine 2?

Absolutely! - They're working on Episode 3 with Source Engine 2 and a new unrelated IP as well!

Could Be. - They might be working on a new engine. L4D2 looks pretty good but its no Unreal Engine 3!

Don't I wish! - Although it IS a possibility, its more likely that they're milking the current engine.

You're Nuts! - There's no way they're working on a new engine. They're just making Episode 3 as awesome as it can be!

No developer would want to work with BSP anymore as it's too much hassle having to make sure everything is sealed off from the void whilst the likes of UE3 is a lot simpler and quicker to work with as you simply plonk stuff into the void and build outwards without having to worry about such annoyances.

Oh, and other engines have superior out-of-the-box tools. I mean, come on, why the christ does Hammer not have an import feature for models or textures? This is 2009, not 1996.

And if we could PLEASE GET VERTEX ANIMATION in. Even if only optional.

Yes, I know, .vta's and faceposes blah blah. But I can't get it working on anything else.

Source doesn't need an update. Source needs to be redone from 0. As Psy said, BSP based engines is a thing of the past. They better be making a new engine if they want to be a reference as a gaming company

Anyway, I agree. Lightmap support for models is a must.

I see your point, but like...in Zeno Clash, the heads of the characters would cast dynamic shadows on their own bodies and such, regardless if you had a dynamic light on them (like the torch you use at End World). Regular lights would cause this. It sure seemed like it at least...
