And banter, You can't compare an Marines mission to a task force mission. Marine missions are always involving large numbers of troops assaulting something, whereas task force missions usually have more memorable events, and deal with the characters alot more (this is true for both games.) but the Marines missions were a lot better in MW2 than they were in MW1. And I think for the most part, the task force missions were better in MW2 as well.

It was a generalised example, not specific or particularly meaningful. Or thought out. Chillax.

Well, my message was just as general as yours.

Only read about half the first post, but felt compelled to throw my two cents in: I uninstalled MW1 after about 15 minutes because it wasn't fun.
i had fun once, and it was awful.

I mostly agree with stoop.

Fact is, there are plenty of problems with this game, but its so addicting and fun that it doesn't matter.

I've come across less hacks in MW2 than I have in any valve related multiplayer game, which is interesting since they both use vac no? Probably because they switch engines more. I guess I'll have to give hackers a bit more time.

Really, this game is sort of between for me. I love the combat and equipment menus, as well as the killstreak deathstreak rewards that give the game a bit more "umph" that a game say counterstrike. However, at the same time, the aspect of leveling diminishes the competitive factor of the game, and the game just doesn't at all feel competitive. So, is there even a reason to play the game beyond just playing it with friends?

As for the single player, it's half assed. There's no need to discuss it, while they did some interesting things it isn't something I would say is brand new to the genre. Innovation is the least of my worries if they do something BETTER than everyone else, but this game doesn't deliver on that spectrum. Spec Ops can be fun on occasion, but while being a little bit fun they're a bit too repetitive for my tastes.

I think MWII implemented some things to take a rather boring game genre and make it a bit more interesting again. That's about it. The lobby system is leagues better than L4D2's though, so give them credit where credit is due. And in comparison to valve games, the menus are quicker to load and aren't unnecessarily bulky, and you aren't halted during map loading / scenario loading unlike in TF2/CS:S/L4D2, where you basically can't even cancel joining a server until you are in the game.

Just as intense and filmatic as the first one, but not even nearly as good in my eyes. It played on the same strings too much, with the non-surprising surprising bomb events, character death and a twist behind every corner. The story clearly suffered from their attempt to make the gameplay as varied and intense as possible. I really disliked the story, it just felt cheap, unstructured and...stupid. The blood splatter effect was extremely annoying to me, I stopped playing several times in the game because of it. Unrealistic "realistic" blood splatter effects and ambush behind every corner was a bad mix.

I haven't tried the multiplayer yet.

For example, fast roping onto a pitching deck for me was a defining experience of gaming. Storming the White House was not.

I would agree for the most part. The cargo ship mission from MW1 was a golden moment in gaming; the first time I truly felt outclassed by my own AI buddies! While MW2 has only a few things that come close to that, and does retread tired ground in many places, it is still a very enjoyable, eye-popping game.

My strongest feelings come from the way IW has completely sidelined the PC market. No dedicated servers (why? I fully support a matchmaking system, but why then remove a tool that builds communities?), no room for modding or even demo recording, and then there was the grossly insulting dismissal of these complaints as those of 'whiney hardcore types.' Even the lean function was stripped out because supposedly they would have had to redesign their levels to balance it. Lolwhut? I bet IW will have the gall to make a statement soon, saying that poor sales figures on the PC are to be blamed solely on piracy and not on their inability to just be nice to an entire market.

It's a console game, with pc support crudely tacked on. I shouldn't care, but at one point these guys were heroes of the pc games industry. It's just a damned shame and a awful way to treat your original cutsomers.
