Erm, I meant holding button for a 1-2 secs to having something ie. crawling activated/deactivated, maybe that's my hardware lag or just me because of this few and only lagged servers i managed to join -.-

I think there was some patch today that helped with joining to lobbies, at least I got more 'almost succesful' attempts than earlier

i was really looking forward to the game, but the demo has disappointed me thought. first off, i prefer team deathmatch, and tbh im more interested in the single player than the multiplayer

So the fact that the DEMO is only Multiplayer and Deathmatch has stopped you looking forward to GAME?

Managed another game, and it turns out people are just a bit shit, it would seem. Played as Alien and after a little bit of acclimatisation got the hang pretty quickly. If they sort out these connection issues I can see this game being really quite fun.

I love all the classes but the marines. It takes real skill to be the Predator though. Aliens are pretty easy. And everyone can play as a marine.

I was playing the game, and I'm sorry but these are the worst controls I've ever seen in any game. Too much "hold down E to pick up this weapon" and the aliens stick to walls as if they were made out of fly paper. Sometimes an alien will leap toward a wall or ceiling and other times it just won't work. In this game, the controls have no continuity. One minute you'll be pressing E and stealth kills work fine, at other moments you'll be following someone mashing E for an hour until you get killed by someone else who was behind you.

Marines walk around like shit, and their jump is horrid. In fact, every class in the game has some fucked up jumps. You press jump and you'll do some jump that's just weird in terms of controls. In other words, this game feels choppy.

SFX are also a big issue. The rifle and shotgun sound effects are probably the weakest sound effects I have ever heard for guns in my life. Not only that, but the radar does this clicking sound that drives anybody wearing headphones absolutely nuts. It sounds like my ears are constantly popping. To put the icing on the cake, there's no music in the menu, making probably the most dull menu I've ever been in.

It gets worse though, mouse sensitivity in the menu and in the game are separate, but in menu my mouse was so fuckin' slow that I just couldn't bear even being in the menu. Gliding from one area to the other in the menu requires quite the large mouse movements, almost as if they tested this game using giant mouse pads or some shit. The menu itself is also very poor in comparison to MWII. With MWII, getting in a game is a sinch and requires little effort from the player, it's literally 2 - 3 clicks away. However, with the quick match menu you have to navigate a needless amount of sub-windows and menus that getting into searching for a lobby is awful. Also, while "searching for other players" it would be nice to see what process it's actually doing rather than the text being rather undescriptive. In MWII, it tells you which games they are searching through out of the total amount of games.

This games worst aspect is the controls. The HUD, besides the main menu, is pretty good and some of the SFX for the aliens and predators are pretty nice. However, the game itself just feels not-smooth. I don't know if this was the server, but everything had a major delay in it. It's as if one minute I put in an action, and 2 minutes later it comes out. Not to mention too much vision bobble.

I posted that on Steam Forums, where they linked to a leaked marine gameplay vid. The weapons sound SOOO GODDAMN BAD.

And doom soudned bad too, but it was bearable.

Rebellion sorry for AvP demo issues, supposed to be fixed now.

http://pc.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/a ... p?id=19185

...

"The full game features the ability to browse for and create games but for the purposes of simplicity the demo was limited to matchmaking, alongside the ability to set up groups with friends which mitigated yesterday’s issues for many.

"We’re really sorry that this issue tainted a day in which we saw many people get hands on with AvP for the first time and we’re hugely gratified by the positive feedback to the game."

PS: Meh. The marine controls are okay, but the alien is down right clunky. I loved the pouncing in AvP2, and the way you cling to walls with shift (or whatever). This transition-system is just shit. You can't jump up to a ceiling. You can't crouch! Another console game, this.

Hope Aliens: CM turns out better.

Being the xenomorphs is by far the funnest. I love how fast they are and how they can crawl on literally anything. The only thing they lack is cool combat. You just claw, claw, claw. The only real drawback is that it's fucking HARD to see where you're going. The camera movements are way too loose and the motion blur fucks with your eyes so much. I'm actually trying to see if I can disable motion blur somehow.

Being a marine is fun, even if you get butchered most of the time. It's just like in the old movies. You have the big ass assault rifle with 99 rounds that even SOUNDS like the old movies. On top of that you have the namesake motion sensor that brought so much intensity in the movies, and it does the same thing in this. The only bad thing is that the level in the demo has no vent shafts for the xenomorphs to traverse through without being seen, and "using the shadows" doesn't really work like you would want it to. You can easily be seen, so speed and timing are the only two tools you have for sneaking up on people. Otherwise you get pumped full of lead.

Predators are REALLY strong, so it gets fucking annoying to fight them when all they have to do is target your ass and fire a homing pulse ball that blows you apart. Their blade boomerang thing is also usually a 1-hit kill, and it bounces everywhere so it usually ends up hitting someone. But being a predator is really cool because you get the vision modes and you can even cloak. Totally like the first movie.

Other than that, the game just needs some more improvements with controls and optimization. They're supposed to be implementing DX11, but I seriously think they should first make the current visuals perform much better before even bothering with DX11. I'm pretty sure they made their own engine for this game, so I don't have a clue what it is they use for optimization.

Wrong, you must look at the reticule. It will change shape, indicating you can leap to the surface you are looking at. Granted the controls are wonky as fuck, but you definitely can leap from floor to ceiling; literally any surface that's within leaping distance. It's saved my ass several times.

I just wish grabbing people wasn't only possible 1/100 of the time. It's fucking lame how wonky the combat is, and I seriously hope they really pay attention to improvements on that.

My first impressions were bad. Confusing UI, laggy mouse movement in the sense that it felt like dragging my arm through drying cement with a boat engine attached (giving it a "glide"). I'm able to pick up most shooters and make a decent try with it, but with this game it felt like starting all over.

I like the concept of three completely different characters, and the xenomorph climbing thing was fun. I have no enthusiasm to learn the game because of the movement settings.
