They better have updated it...

Bethesda is currently doing a lot of upgrading on that engine, at least for animations. I'm guessing new vegas will be using the same version.

Right... So next Elder Scrolls will also use that engine? I hated the overall look of all the characters in Oblivion, no matter how damn good story and gameplay it was, I just couldn't overlook it after a while.

I think, even though the characters didn't look uber-realistic, it fit into the general art direction of the game and thus was totally okay. Apart from the shoddy shooter-aspect I didn't really have any gripes with it, and it ran well.

Yeah fallout 3 would be a thousand times better with a set of higher res textures and proper character animations/flexes.
Running diagonally makes you look like you're moonwalking.

I downloaded a bunch of 2048x2048 textures for fallout 3 and now it looks a lot better and with barely any performance loss. I wonder why bethesda didn't just include high res textures off the start.

I'd be very surprised if Bethesda were to use anything other than gamebryo for fallout/oblivion games. However, there's rumours about the next elder scrolls being a MMORPG, so maybe not.

Hah, those rumors are hardly true, they wouldn't stray away from their series with an MMO... But, I've read what happens with the world after Oblivion and apparently Vvardenfel gets destroyed and the Argonians overtake it or something and it's just a big ball of clusterfuck. I think the story was written in a book, not sure, but it wouldn't be the first time Bethesda based their story on him.

If it was written in a book in the game I'm sure it was just a joke that one of the devs put in...

I don't know...a lot of just as unlikely series have been moved to MMO lately. The potential goldmine is probably very appealing. I remember KOTOR started off as just silly rumors.

I doubt bethesda will make a MMORPG out of it, but i certainly won't rule it out.

I would actually love an Oblivion-style MMO. The best way to handle it would probably be an instanced style like Guild Wars, but I would still be fine with that. It's probably better to have it like that anyway. Just you and a few friends running around going through quest lines without having to worry about any other stupid kids.

So basically you want Oblivion Co-Op but with a lobby area where the masses gather. I remember a mod that let you play it online with a friend but last I checked it was buggy.

I think you could get this by just having normal multiplayer, drop in/out with up to four players or something. Like Fable, except good.

edit: i see habboi already replied.

The difference between an instanced system and drop in/out multiplayer is that everyone is visible in the major cities (Or you have multiple servers for each city like Guild Wars does). This way you can only have someone join your party in a city area instead of having them drop in during whatever you're doing which could mess up their quest lines. It also gives it more of an MMO feeling compared to shitty co-op like Fable 2 did.

PC gamer preview:
It's a first-person view game, using the same engine as Fallout 3
A new "Hardcore mode" will be available, in which (among other things) stimpacks heal over time, ammo has weight, and players can suffer from dehydration.
The story focuses on a conflict between three factions: the New California Republic (a nation from Fallout 2), "Caesar's Legions," based on the Vegas strip, and the residents of New Vegas.
The player is not a Vault Dweller but a courier who is rescued by a friendly robot.
Super Mutants resembling those from Fallout 2 make an appearance, including the unique (and stealthy) Nightkin.
A "reputation system" measuring faction friendliness operates beside the karma system.
Some story points and locations seem to have been lifted from the old "Van Buren" demo, including the Hoover Dam.
Followers can be managed via a context-sensitive menu containing commands such as "follow," "stay" and "attack."
