Deus Ex 3

Postby Supervillain on Fri Feb 05, 2010 9:44 pm

So I just started playing the original Deus Ex again. Had it on PS2 back in the day, but its much more fun on PC. My god are the graphics terrible though :P
After I am done, I am going to play Deus Ex: Invisible War (Deus Ex 2)

But in my internet travels I stumbled upon this little gem: http://www.deusex3.com/ which looks awesome. It isn't being developed by the original team, but I should hope they keep the spirit of the game the same. The original DX is like Oblivion, but less buggy, with awesome guns, and cool body augmentations. I'm looking forward to playing it with MUCH better graphics and environments, better FPS elements, and a cool story (the writer from the first 2 games is consulting on this new one). So it won't be "you are super-awesome future space-marine. Everyone is fucked. Thank GOD you showed up/we brought you back from the dead/you traveled time to be here. In between clicking on heads, hide behind this concrete slab for 10 seconds so you regen your health, then start clicking heads again"

If you go to the forums on the site, then the FAQ, there are some pretty cool screenshots and concept art.
Also, if you never played the first Deus Ex, I highly recommend it. I've never played the 2nd, but I'll let ya know if it holds up to the first.

EDIT: DX1 was released in 2000. Graphics were really that bad 10 years ago?

So I showed her. Gave it right to her like I owed her. That's when I turned from Shrek the Ogre into Master Yoda.

That seems interesting.

On top of that, the single player mod for the original game "The Nameless Mod" that took them like 7 years to make, won the Editor's Choice Best Singleplayer Mon on ModDB. Might be worth checking out as well:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-nameless-mod

Every dialog tree is voiced, and pretty well I'm told. There was a little scene from the game they put in at the end of the awards video that was pretty damn funny too. Some of the ModDB staff said it's possibly better than the original Dues Ex.

PS: Those graphics were incredible for its time. I remember when I first played Halo 1 and thought it was the most realistic game ever. Then like 6 years later, Crysis comes out and makes everyone shit their pants.

ENBSeries improves the lighting a fair bit, may be worth an install:

ENBseries is a must have for replaying Dues Ex with current hardware. It makes the game look ALOT better. This are also various texture and model packs floating around the net, that when combined, replace nearly everything ingame with a hires version.

I replayed it sometime last year and greatly enjoyed it... for the 4th time.
I'm getting ready to replay the 2nd again, and it's really not as bad as people make it out to be. It was kinda disappointing because it was dumbed down, but it is still a very above average game. I enjoyed every minute of it, and the difficulty is spot on.

GTFO with this Mass Effect 2 hate, we don't want your sorry ass here.

On a more serious note, I never finished the original Deus Ex, and obviously the old CD doesn't work anymore. I did like it though, it was fun to sneak around.

Oh god! Don't, please don't. You'll hate yourself for having done so.

Heresy! Deus Ex should've been named "This is a GODLY game inside your machine."

You know you're old when you reminisce about how such games have changed over time. Heh. Twinsen's Odyssey. Lucasarts adventure games. Wing Commander. Zork.

I think the best draw for Deus Ex is that the combat-vs-sneaking dynamic for advancing yourself was incredibly robust. It doesn't take all that much quicksaving in order to complete the game as a 99% pacifist run, taking down all enemies non-lethally.

In Deus Ex, you might choose to swim (using some consumable protective gear or implant-power) through some toxic sludge if it meant bypassing some guards. Or hacking another door to go around. Or using a cloaking item/implant to bypass enemies.

Mass Effect (which I've been playing recently) is by contrast still mostly combat-centric. There's no real "sneaking", and special abilities are almost entirely combat tools. Hacking is otherwise mainly a way to open crates.

Been waiting for some leaked footage. Part two doesn't appear to work though.

Whoa just watched part 2. I definitely really excited now. Seems like they did a good job of bringing the Deus Ex gameplay into the 21st century. Those graphics are really sharp too! The character models look fantastic and the textures look high-res and nice.

Anyone know where to find part one? That mediafire link is broken.
