Ubisoft has a couple of games I was looking forward to. The new Splinter Cell, the new Ghost Recon, Beyond Good and Evil 2 to name just a few.

Due to my famously unreliable internet connection, unless they roll back to to a sane measure of DRM I won't be buying any of them.

But wouldn't that be good? Either people don't care, and they buy it. Even if publishers all start with this practice, those people still won't care (or at least not until they suffer from its restrictions after the first few games). Or people care, and they don't buy those games. If all publishers started doing this and fell flat on their face, that would be GREAT. We need a big change of practice and mentality in the industry imo.

A petition won't change anything, at any rate. Maybe if all the media bashed them.

That's two companies on my never buy from again list. Bioshock 2's fantastic idea of using GFWL makes me want to avoid 2k, and now this makes me want to avoid ubisoft.

In all honesty I'm tired of pirating games I legitimately own just so I can play them (ie Crysis would never launch so I had to get a crack)

The best anti-piracy is to reward people who buy the game. DRM is punishment for buying a game. Pirates are basically unaffected by DRM so that means its only the consumer who gets effected by the restriction set upon them by DRM.

So way to go Ubisoft, if you want more people to buy your game how about just making sure the game is GOOD and not give out a bunch of restrictions. Every good game will sell just fine, pirates or not. Many people who pirate are those who never intended to buy the game in the first place, so piracy numbers aren't a good representation how how much money you've lost, because you wouldn't have made all that money anyway.

I for one will not be buying these games, if anything I will pirate them unless there is a better solution. So good going Ubisoft you've managed to do the complete opposite of what you wanted, which is more sales and less pirates.

I love Ubisoft. What's wrong with DRM's?

I pre-ordered Conviction last month. And I've been waiting for Beyond Good And Evil 2 for a very long time.

Basically this. I personally won't support this, as in, I won't buy their games. Then again, they don't have any I would want anyways. Pirates don't care about DRM anyways, the only thing DRM does is make piracy more attractive, as mentioned before. Not to mention it hasn't been proven nor would it make sense that piracy severely affects sales. In fact, (dutch) studies have suggested otherwise. Again not to mention the philosophical side of... bla bla bla ¬_¬

This.

Don't really care. I only want Splinter Cell and unless they do this with console products, then I would be annoyed.

Especially since I have to use a 60 foot cable to connect my PS3 to the net and then there's my friend who can't afford the internet.

I have the same problem as some of the guys in the steam chat may know so im gonna get a pirated version. its a pain in the ass to restart for example Assassins Creed 2 every time my internet times out, which can be for 10 seconds but sometimes for 10 minutes. But I dont buy games which restrict me in terms of installations or install trojans to spy my computer anyways so....

I don't get it...

Haven't pirate groups cracked every damn DRM that's been tossed their way? Hell even the last Riddick game got cracked, and the security on that shit was ridiculous thanks to Atari. It was the same thing for the Alone in the Dark game as well. What's stopping them from cracking this?

I don't see this doing anything but encouraging more piracy. Anyone who can't play Ubisoft's games because of an unstable connection will either turn to piracy or download a CD patch to bypass the protection.

Ubisoft doesn't deserve my money, they stole me 100 € with Far Cry 2 and Assassins Creed. So from now on I'm SKIDROW ftw.

The DRM will kill the PC versions sales.

The company will spin it to make it sound like piracy caused the flop.

All it will do is drive paying customers to downloading cracks (which will be produced anyway) for games that they already own in order to evade the annoyances.

And then the next game you release, you'll find you've driven a good portion of your player base into being so familiar with installing cracks that some of them decide to skip the middle part...

Pre-ordered it? After the fail of Double Agent? :|

Don't forget Psychonauts 2. (And maybe Deus Ex two--er--three and Star Control three--er--four.)
