Future of games

At DICE10, Jesse Schell gave a speech about how gaming might affect us in the future. His speech might come off as a bit over-exaggerating at the end, but this man continues to impress me. It doesn't matter if you're not interested in game design per se, this lecture is probably the most interesting 20 minutes of your day.

How likely are these things to happen? Does it scare you?

If it ever happens, technology like that probably wouldn't come for another 30 years or so. Not because it takes that long to develop it, but because it will take that long for any government to allow it.

Just watched it all. A decent presentation with some notable points, but he got a bit carried away with the end and dragged it out way too much. But the first 3/4 of it was good.

This sounds like a corporate, mechanistic hell of a big government surveillance nightmare of encouraged conformity and psychological behavior modification. :(

That was pretty cool.. as much as it would suck to have corporations shoving ads down my throat, exp points for living a good life would be cool. I would be a little more motivated I think.

The last part shouldn't be taken literally/seriously, he's obviously exaggerating on purpose. Some of these things are pretty likely to happen, there already exists applications that uses a GPS to map where you are and "rank" your locations on a leaderboard-like list.
