Cool Indie game "Spy Party"

Postby joe_rogers_11155 on Wed Mar 24, 2010 1:56 am

Check out this really neat idea for an indie game. The idea is to make a multiplayer game where one person is a spy mingling in a party ballroom and performing covert activities, and the other player is a sniper watching the party from hundreds of yards away, trying to determine who the spy is - and he only has one bullet to kill the spy with.

Very awesome, sounds like a total mind fuck :)

No its not source - but it could be. :)

The hard part will be making believable AI that would act like a human player. Otherwise the spy is trying to blend in with predictably animated NPCs.

I think that's exactly what you do -- all your movements have to be smooth. Any weird human jerkiness will stick out.

Perhaps you don't actually do the moving, but simply point your mouse and click to say, walk to the character you are pointing at.

You can also bind buttons for various animations such as "drink wine" "flail arms wildly" which will be seamlessly performed.

in the article it says that the sniper was looking for "human error" in the spy in the room. But as the spy got used to interacting with the party and blending in, it got much more difficult to the sniper.

whenever the spy does a specific "Covert action", his character apparently does a "telling"movement" whether it be brushing his head or some other differentiating movement. It's totally up to the sniper to be watching for those movements through his vision-limiting scope.

And since the spy can see the laser, he's got a good clue when he's safe to do the covert action.

Sounds like Guess Who but with snipers. No I take that back, more like Cluedo.

it would be cool if other party guests were human players, with needs. Like food, bathroom, etc. That way they would get something fun to do, while making it harder to find the spy. Also, perhaps an informant, one on the ground that tries not to get the spies attention, and relays info to the sniper.
