NS2 Editor

Postby Shr3d on Thu Apr 01, 2010 11:20 am

Just out of curiosity, who is using it at the moment and what do they think of it?
Unfortunately I don't have $40 on my VISA account so I can't try it out for another week >.>

Im using it and its great! ofc it has room for improvements but its IMO A LOT easier to learn and the result often looks better. also it has some amazing features like automated alpha lightning, realtime lighting preview and a better workflow as in hammer.

It behaves more like a brush based modeling program rather than a level editor
(and its actually just $19,99 for the standart edition)

Doesn't it use some other kind of level creation, I think I heard it had some sort of poly creation system instead of brushes.

So it's one thousand, nine hundred, ninety nine dollars? Make sure you use "." as a decimal point.

In Europe many people use a comma in place of a decimal.

Ah, I see. But here we do not, I can only predict this will cause farther confusion in the future.

And the opposite applies too, so you'll see:

1.000.000,00 for a million

instead of

1,000,000.00

NS2 editor is great, I would use it more if I felt that was the appropriate engine for my upcoming project.

I have a video (with a surprising amount of hits) of me using it, but if you want some video tutorials later I can provide.

Actually, if anyone is curious, I am working on some Unreal tutorials which will basically cover the experience of moving from the source engine to the unreal engine. I feel there's an extreme lack of intermediate tutorials on unreal, so it's hard for people who are already basically experienced with editing tools to get a instant grasp of what to do with UDK.

ANYWAY, NS2 editor is amazing and can't wait for some basic alpha testing coming up next friday. :-D

I'm definitely curious. I've long wanted to learn UE3 but it's just been so intimidating and the tutorials are difficult to follow.

There are vcool, but the way I feel is that there's not a very good "transitional" tutorials for those curious into stepping into this engine a new. Many of the tutorials are "how to hollow out a cube" and "basic geometry editor" but none of it really tackles one of the major aspects of the unreal engine : how asset heavy it really is. Most of your mapping time will actually be spent in 3ds max instead of unreal ed, assuming you are doing it right. You don't even really need to texture it until you get into unreal, which is really amazing btw how you can make small assets and apply a material to them within 3ds max and apply them to specific parts of models.

If my UDK tutorials go smoothly, I'll make a set for the NS2 editor once I feel I'm ready to use it. And also a few tutorials on the starcraft 2 map editor.

I've still got a lot to learn, but I really hope to give back to the people studying source engine. Also, I'm going to be looking for coders in a while to build this UDK game.

Whoops, derailed. I'll start a thread soon once I get enough of my feet in the water.

It's nothing special, just something I made in 20 minutes. Here you go.

I'll make another video soon. Also, alpha test next week. Super excite. Also, subscribe to my youtube channel if you want more NS videos in the future. =)
