I had something written here but I decided to grab it and flesh it out as a blog-post later.

Long story short, Crysis did indeed go downhill after the alien base, but for two reasons. The first was the linearity in the maps themselves, in terms of your ability to go left, right or straight down the middle. It was all middle. The second reason was that you lost your ability to really play with your enemies, and it became all about shooting constantly. (With creeped-out paranoia and sneaky cloaking I ended up avoiding the finale hive-fights entirely, though.)

I personally liked the linearality except for the vtol flying, i really wish it was alot more versitile. Not much of an area to fly.

Sounds like competition for the UDK? Free engines to mod for are always good, and could even be considered to provide advertisement/training/recruiting grounds for the companies.
