Custom sounds not working?

Postby Esrange on Mon Apr 12, 2010 10:32 pm

I'm trying to add some custom sounds to L4D, not music. In hammer i can hear the sound when i select it from the sound list, but ingame it says
"S_StartSound: Failed to load sound 'npc\65938__jamieclarko__emergencyalertsystemdistortedfmnoise.wav', file probably missing from disk/repository"

65938__jamieclarko__emergencyalertsystemdistortedfmnoise.wav is a really long file name!!! That could be part of the problem...

The other part about the bitrate, I mean what bitrate is the wav file? I normally set mine to 44000. There are setings that can make or break the sounds. If the settings are wrong they may not play properly. But I would say shorten the name a bit and see if that works...

What are you using for the sound editing? did you record the sound yourself? I use adobe audition to do the edits, but you can use GoldWave, which is free I believe... In most cases you will be looking at the "Sample Rate" to see what the settings are and also edit them if need be.

Is it just the one file you are messing with? If so, I can take a look at it if you want to send it to me...
