Counter strike sequal?

Postby Hypey[UG] on Wed Apr 14, 2010 8:40 am

Presuming that the reason episode 3 is taking ages is due to an engine revamp, is there any chance that valve would remake counter strike source on a better engine and sell it with a low price like portal or tf2?

Doubt it. There are too many military shooters around to make CS2 even worth making, not to mention how the majority of the CS community would just bitch and complain about how it's all new and different.

There were a lot of rumours about a CSS2 being in the pipeline.

Then the lead dev of CSS quit Valve. Ergo, no CSS2.

Sad times really, it was going to hit console.

Well I'm pretty sure Episode 3 wont be on a whole new engine. But I think Half-Life 3 will, and that they release a sequel to Counter-Strike with it aswell.

Valve actually worked on a counter-strike 2 but stopped working on it and put'd it on the shelf to be worked on later. Right now its just collecting dust while they do TF2 updates, L4D1/2 DLC, portal 2, episode 3 and other stuff.

The guy who made the original CS mod for Goldsource is releasing a new game based on it called Tactical Intervention. Good enough?

Those character animations are awful.

I did laugh at the the hostages spazzing out like epileptic 8 year olds on a sugar high.

Valve released a beta of counter-stirke source last week, a update witch will port everything over to the orangebox code, did you not noticed this? It will contain achivements, the cam-zoom-killer function, and some other things. I played it for like an half hour and it felt good, refreshing and fun.

Here it is: http://store.steampowered.com/app/260/

And also, cs 1.6 was updated for like 3 mounths or so, I think it was mostly about movement and sound, gonna check with my my friend. He is almost playing at proffesional level. So one thing to mention, is that he claims that cs 1.6 is bigger in amatur/pro competetive gaming than it ever has been before. That there is alot more small cups hosted by local computer stores/companys. + 90% of all teenagers in Sweden has anytime played it for more than 20 hours in total, that is for sure! But this gets me wonder if Valve is even aware of this?

I remember Gabe saying something like that followed by and interview a month later saying his inbox filled up with ppl saying "we want cs2". Then he said something like 'we are working on it' but yeah as far i can figure out in's not a top priority. So maybe sometime after ep3, be nice if they did "blue box" cs2+ep3+portal2, but some what unlikely.

Also with the css:ob beta doing the rounds i think it means cs2 is years off. *sigh*
Tactical Intervention should be out this year - if not next.
Valve wish list:
-Triangle Displacements in hammer/source
-Movable Datum(grid) Planes in hammer
& Arc Based Datum Planes
-Counter Strike 2

What would be the use of Counter Strike: 2? What is there at this time that majorly needs to improve? The thing about CS and why it's so successful is because it's so easy to pick up, and easy to learn. There's no perks, no complex realistic forces, no difficult maneuvers, so on and so forth. The main thing of CS is buy a gun, and either save hostages or plant bombs or the other way around.

Adding anything more than that, I have a feeling would piss off a lot of people, because then the game becomes more complex and more like anything else. In the long run, CS:S is just CS 1.6 on Source. Sure you can get into some gameplay differences, but the core of it all, it's the same. That's why it's stayed popular.

What would CS2 bring to the table? Currently we're still on Source, so there's no reason to make a sequel on Source, all it would do is kill the CS:S player base for another less potentially successful sequel.

Perhaps when Source2 or some other engine in the future is announced, then it would be a good time, but as for now, updating the game like any other seems to suffice just as well.

So bouncy_ninja, I really see no reason to get hyped and wanting CS:2 when it'd be a waste in itself.

Minh "Gooseman" Le Interview 17/5

The thing I want to stress with our new game, TI, is to make it easy and rewarding for strangers to work as a team. In CS, teamwork only came about due to the layout of the map but with TI, I'm hoping people will stick together because of the tangible benefits that it offers.

During our beta tests with random players, everyone seemed to enjoy our vehicle level the most. I hope that's not because our other levels sucked.... hmmm :)

TI also has dogs which can be helpful to warn players of nearby enemies and also can be used to scout out rooms, and in many cases, being unleashed on an enemy to bring him down. Vehicles.. cars and helicopters add a whole new dimension to gameplay.
