I'm pretty sure the reason is that the L4D2 version doesn't support DirectX 8, and they didn't want to break the game for those out there still using hardware from the stone age. Unfortunately, they still managed to break it regardless. ¬_¬

They just released an update that changed something with scripted sequences. There's no official news on it yet though, this may or may not be fixed.

Yeah the maps mostly appear to be without HDR. The first map of "Black Mesa East" seemed to have HDR, though it didn't look particularly special (just bloomed).

Personally I haven't noticed any difference in the Vortigaunt model, it looked like a splodgy mess to me :?

Eww. Fakefactory is garbage. Sadly a lot of fanboys on moddb are proclaiming it to be "the best HL2 mod ever" and are trying to bump up its low score.

I hate how noobs think stuff with tonnes of polies instantly makes something better. None of them seem to notice the terrible texture work ¬_¬

Down with mac fanboys! Fight the power!

Joining too! Apple are now officially the evil empire. I don't recall people dying to make Microsoft stuff :<

It's awesome minus the fact that damn Hammer crapped up again -_-
Totally dig the achievements.

Fuck man, if they port/update lost coast then they better optimize it, or something, it's unforgivably bad as it stands. It runs alright, but so much of the map is rendering at all times.

Rejoice! Rejoice! They've added HDR to Half Life 2! It looks so much better under OB. Shame everything is still fucked.

Am I the only one that noticed that the HL2 skyboxes are all streched now because valve didn't recompile the maps? The sides are 512x256 textures streched to 512x512.

I think I saw that on the Plaza menu background, yeah. Try harder Valve.

Did npc's fade away instantly after death before the update?
When in doubt, VDC.

Looks like the same old Half-Life 2 except the torch is blindingly bright now.

Am I the only one who feels like we've lost something? Although most of the changes are small in terms of their affect when you play through the game, to me I kind of wish they would allow me to choose between playing the original from 2003/2004 and now. I obviously am thankful they do these upgrades for free, but I would also like to see some respect for those of us with high levels of sentimentality.

It can be a bitch sometimes though. If you have a Steam game and it updates, and the update is a piece of shit that stops you playing or messes something up, then you can't do a damn thing about it. Updates are forced on us, like those brilliant SDK ones.

I wouldn't really want to go back and play the original Half-Life 2 though with all it's bugs and stuttering issues. :smt018
