Wait so they finally recompiled the maps in HL2 so they have HDR?

Well I played it right after it got updated to the OB engine but there wasn't any HDR, and the skies seemed fine to me.

I didn't notice any HDR, I don't think they recompiled it in. The map file sizes look to be unchanged as well.

I think the effects and all around shaders look a bit better than they did but its nothing to drastic. In certain places I defiantly feel a little more ambiance like the lab. Most noticeable changes for me would have to be the flashlight and 75o FOV to the 90o FOV. I knew you could change this in console, but its nice to have 90 as an option now. It feels much much less claustrophobic and open while playing.

One downside of this is that the title screens are now missing this new found 15 degrees of view which causes parts on either side of the screen to be showing where the map has been cut off, seen below. The displacements don't reach to the edge of the screen and the train teleport's into your view.

Lab looks way hawter. I think its the wider FOV that does it though.

This is so cheap, such as thing should not be missed, they are showing non-existent geometry. :?

Oh? Your title screen doesn't do that? Its not on all of them, but some maps that were more optimized for the 75 degree FOV I believe you'll get this. 1920X1080 @ 90. If it is a card issue than both my old 4850 and new 5970 do this :O

Also orange tubes are gone when you come back to the lab later in the game, after you teleport back to C17. At least I think they are XD

Ah, yeah, the tubes bugger off because they get smashed.

As for the 75 degree thing, I'll see if it's there. Valve is still patching the hell out of the game.

heh, since it's on orange box we can't spam jump anymore :( It's going to fuck up every speedrun ever.

Also some maps have HDR skyboxes and stuff. Man, that the trainyard map right after you exit the tunnel coming out of ravenholm has always been the best looking map in hl2 (in my opinion) and with HDR and shit it looks soo good, holy dicks.

Highway 17 bridge is pretty damn impossible now. Also, HL2 now has the flashlight+water bug that Mission Improbable has.
When in doubt, VDC.
