Portal 2 E3 Backstage Gameplay

Postby Phraggah on Wed Jun 16, 2010 7:29 am

Not sure if this video has been posted yet, but with all the craziness going on at E3, these lucky few from Twit managed to get a backstage sneak peek at portal 2 including a new, interesting game play mechanic: goo?

Thoughts: I think this Goo mechanic and (possibly simulated) dynamic liquid-like materials spawned out of Episode 3's need for such a mechanic. Although as a level designer I can't wait to get my hands on it...

That video is just the last minute of the presentation. IGN has the whole thing in three parts here.

That "goo" is actually paint, and the idea was taken from the independent game "Tag: The Power of Paint" after the whole team behind that game was hired by valve.

Okay people, here are some more videos. I got these videos off of hlportal.de and they got the videos from IGN. The journalists seem to upload fast and good. Just to give correct credit!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

Colour me impressed. Although that British voice actor sounds a bit amateur.

Do you know the biggest lesson I learned from what you did? We're a lot alike, you and I. You tested me - I tested you. You killed me - I... Oh no, wait. I guess I haven't killed you yet. Food for thought.

Wheatly (The sphere) is voiced by a Valve employee. Valve has stated that usually the voice would be temporary, but the received such positive feedback that they're thinking of making him the official voice actor. I like him :D

I honestly don't understand the criticism of the voice actor. Maybe I'm not attuned to the more thespianesque pursuits of life, but to me he sounded believable and downright funny.

I agree with you. I thought the English voicefor Wheatley was a nice, fresh touch to the portal universe, from what I have read elsewhere, most Americans find the very fact of a 'British' robot hilarious (in a good way).
Some of the dialogue made me laugh out loud on more than a few occasions.

Humour is incredibly hard to do well in games, Valve nailed it...again.
I don't know what all the fuss is about.
