I sort of hate the phrase "casual" games. (Even after a stint at a casual-games company.) It means whatever the speaker really wants it to mean.
That said, my definition is: "It's still fun even if you play for only five minutes every day."
Monkey Island wouldn't fit, because that's not enough time to get back into the story and to figure out what you already picked up from where and what those clues were from that piece of dialog, etc. Braid might fit, but only for the shorter puzzles. FPSes won't work, because it takes you that long to get "in the zone".
