A Bioshock Prequel in the Sky?

Postby Megadude on Thu Aug 12, 2010 8:11 pm

To infinity and beyond? Try to Bioshock Infinite, the weird, but somehow-not-in-a-bad-way name of Irrational's third BioShock game. And get this: It's set in 1912, decades before either of the original two games took place, and in a floating skyward steampunk-style city named Columbia (which students of etymology will recognize as a poetic name for New World America, not the country in South America--that's with an 'o'). Think hot air balloons instead of diving bells, funky automatons with beating hearts for heads in lieu of faceless Big Daddies, and an art nouveau aesthetic instead of the old art deco shtick.

It's amazing how much of a twist this was, I bet the people that made Bioshock 2 didn't even think it was all a dream. I wonder when the release date is?

So now Irrational Games announced their new project, wasn't Id Software going to do that same today at QuakeCon?

How do they know it's a prequel? The other 2 game could have been a future dream, to see what could happen if, I'm guessing Andrew Ryan is in the game, built a city. Also the heart isn't the things head, you can see an outline clearly.

Kotaku article says it's a prequel, Arma. Taking place in 1912, a time of American pride.

I love their 1st person trailers. This is most definitely surprising though, I never expected such a change in settings, but I guess it's good because a 3rd Bioshock that's underwater would be kind of redundant. They already portrayed Rapture relatively new to completely rundown.

Floating cities are fucking awesome.

Well the trailer was very awesome. And even though it's kind of obvious to take air after water, the trailer got me interested.

Clearly the protagonist (or at least, cameraman) has been spliced with the genes of a rose.

I'm most certainly sure it's going to be the same engine, and the gameplay is going to be similar, it's just in the sky which even got me interested since I didn't like the other Bioshock games much.
