Mass Effect 3...that was fast...

Postby nub on Fri Dec 17, 2010 4:02 am

So Bioware has already launched a cinematic trailer to announce Mass Effect 3. It hasn't even been a year since we were graced with the second game, and before Dragon Age 2 is out. The game is slated for Holiday 2011, a year from now.

2011 is going to be a great year. :-D

not to nitpick, but i hope there's an explanation as to how the reapers managed to get to earth within sheppard's lifetime. Last i remember, they locked the reapers out of using the dark space relay hidden in the citadel. Can't wait to see how it pans out.

I'm also curious about that too. I'm guessing they have the technology to travel at ungodly speeds that far surpass the FTL speeds that standard ships are capable of. Or maybe they just found a new way in to the galaxy that only they know of. I'm pretty sure Sovereign mentioned in the first game about how the Reapers would still come even if Shepard stopped Saren.

Highlight to read:
Maybe since he was essentially rebuilt in the 2nd game, he was able to live longer because he's sort of a cyborg? Just an idea I guess. But that means only a few of the characters from the first two games could possibly make a return.

What I'm more curious about is who that guy was in the clock tower at the beginning. He comes off as a pretty important character considering they showed him way more than Shepard.

There are some theories that going through the omega 4 relay was a trap set by the reapers to somehow give them a way out of dark space (not sure how). The trailer also confused me because it said that 7 million died in a day (right? or something like that) when I thought one reaper could take out earth entirely in less than a day. Also, who are the reapers controlling now? Not collectors, no seeker swarms. Not geth, reapers dropped them, mainly due to the two groups gaining different ideas. Is this a new race or have the reapers indoctrinated an existing one? My bet is a new race. I want to say the brit is a new character/important one, but I can't bee too sure. I remember in the first teasers for ME2 Nassana Dantius got a lot of screen time "But you're dead!" and we all saw how important she turned out to be.

The roles of Nassana Dantius and this soldier are a bit different in my opinion.

A bit. Just giving the possibility he may be a grunt who dies. I really don't see anything special about him.

I think the fact that he expects Shepard to save Earth makes him a little unique. Just my opinion though. He may very well have a small role.

It looked like the guy talking shot a husk in the video.

My thoughts on the end of ME2 made me think they were gonna go poking around at the sleeping Reapers.

I would imagine Reapers have security for that, which would include waking up and beginning with the genocide.

I actually think limitation is good for creativity. If we had an engine that could do everything, we would be in trouble. It gives us focus. ~~ Randy Lundeen

I don't care what happened and how it happened, ME1 & 2 were just brilliant, and I know ME3 will be.

Can't wait!

I am also looking forward to ME3, I just re-completed ME2. Hope they work on the shadow system more, it seems similar to the Halo3/Reach one but is quite glitchy.

Super excited for this.

On adressing the issue that the Reapers are able to get to Earth within Shepard's lifetime.
Remember in ME 2 the sun Dholen near the planet Haestrom (where you collect Tali Zorah) I think that might have something to do with it.

Fucking cheesy as it may be the Reapers may be manipulating stars in order to devise a way to get back into the Milky way fast.

Either that or that whole sideplot of the Dholen star turning into a red giant too early will remind Shepard that he could always sacrifice our Sun (via yet to be announced weapon or w/e) and destroy / trap the reapers in-system but losing Earth as well. (would be quite the sacrifice for the greater good right?)

Why do I think this? Think back to the Prothean beacon: you see an entire system engulfed in flames, which has been thought out by Bioware for some reason.

Also stupid plot holes in ME 2. Why the hell did the Reapers leave one of their kind behind when they are so thorough with destroying all evidence of their presence? (Cerberus happens to find both the destroyed Reaper and the weapon that caused the kill so why can't the Reapers?)

+ Potential stupidity in ME 3: The Reapers have the ability to lock out Mass Relays right? Attack Earth, seal relay.
no way in hell that you would get in (hey it's their tech right?) unless ofcourse you can steal another IFF transponder the size of a small cardboard box that fits neatly into your ships' systems lol.

okay yeah, sorry for the nerd overload.
but some thoughts worth thinking about I think?

PS PS.
Also 1 Reaper + Geth fleet is nearly enough to annihilate the alliance fleet... how will they fare against 300+ Reapers?

(I'm fearing a major Deus ex Machina at the end of ME 3 because to be honest, I see no real way to win this)

Perhaps by the time the third game come out, I will forget how disappointing was the second one, at least for me. After the terrible experience with BioWare's DLC and the extremely thin and dumb plot of ME2, it will take an effort to get me to spend money on their games again.

LOl wasnt that the WTC building structure that was colapsed???? in the beginning in the trailer.....
it sure looks good but the story is the same as hunderds of shooters... Help mankind or the earth gets it....
it sad to see developers love cash.... i think they had to release it from EA (evil company that kills good game's in a finger snap)....

for example DR age looks good but thats not the only thing you need for a good game!
also take a look how EA liked to fuck up the C&C series its such a shame, another exampe fifa :/ how original just change the title on the box from 2010 to 2011 and we got a nice game to rip you of...

and how the hell are they able to produce a good game in such small time frame.... for example MGS4 took kojima 5 years... and you can see it all back in the game.... it has a good story line!!!

but enough bitching i hope game developers will be more original again instead of copy catting another hero saves the world game.....
