Crysis 2 Minimum Specs Out [Demo Out]

Postby thefight on Wed Feb 02, 2011 5:16 pm

Due in March they have just released the Min Specs:

More than three years on and Crysis remains one of the most technically demanding games you can buy for your PC, a dubious honour it shares with such fine programs as Arma 2 and Photoshop. Now it is the future and Crysis has a sequel and the minimum specs for that sequel have been disgorged by VG247. How bad are they? Are they awful? Well, they’re actually not too bad at all. I just really like that headline.

The original Crysis demanded a 2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or 3.2 GHz or faster (Vista) CPU, a gig of RAM, a 256MB video card and 12 gigs of hard disc space.

Crysis 2 wants the following:

* Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2 2GHz or better
* Nvidia 8800 GT or higher
* 2 GB RAM
* Windows XP/Vista/7
* 9 GB free hard disk space
* Internet connection

So, same sort of video card, slightly heftier CPU, more RAM, and 3 gigs less hard disc space. Hardly a giant leap forward in expectations considering Crysis 2 uses CryEngine 3, Crytek’s successor to Crysis’ CryEngine 2.

Man. Remember having to upgrade your PC every year to get the best out of it? No? Me either.

AlsoI just bought a laptop with an NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 425M GPU (1GB VRAM) graphics card and I dont know how that compares to the 8800 GT. Would my graphics card be able to handle this?

and a trailer:

I still can't play Crysis on anything other than low.

It will under preform compared to the 8800 GT, but it might be close enough to handle it on lower settings.

Really, all this means is that the engine scales easier on different computers.

I want to see how much power it takes to make this game look great.

Will it look good? Probably.

Will it be worth an upgrade? Hell no.

All considering Crysis 1 of course...

My CPU is just under 2.2 ghz, but it should be ok. GPU is fine. Ram is fine. I think I'll get the same performance out of it that I did with the first game.

This will likely make me sound like an asshole but for the life of me I can not see why people buy laptops for gaming. I understand people wanting a portable machine, but if you really like gaming, you should spend the money for a desktop machine. Years ago I suffered through gaming on a crap computer and finally chose to save my money and buy a good machine. I will never go back to those days... I had a Dell xps laptop a few years back that was issued to me through my job, even the so calked "gaming laptop" lagged on the games I played. Though I refuse to run at less than maxed out on all setting so I am a bit of a snob like that. But I think anything build into a laptop is not going to run as well as a desktop that can be upgraded and tweaked far more.

I needed mine for school since I will bring it with me from class to class. I got some extra money from the state so I put it towards a better laptop that could handle the newer games, since I have never had a computer good enough to handle anything other than CSS at respectable FPS. I would have rather spent my money on a desktop since it upgradeable and cheaper but I think I will wait once I am out of school and have my own place to buy one. I am fine running games at low or medium settings long as they run smoothly.

Also I would assume the recommended specs will be a lot higher.

I think that you can literally handle meshes with several Billion polygons in XSI with 12 gigs of ram.

holy butts man.

but about Crysis 2, I'm kinda upset that my PC is only slightly better than the minimum specs for this game.

I would imagine Delta was thinking like me. My current system has 8 GB of RAM, so when I upgrade to an i7 cpu that is triple channel I can go with 6 or 12 GB of RAM to stay in the same ballpark. Being that there is no way in hell I will take a step backwards, 12 GB it will be. Pretty much sums it up...
