DiRT 3

Postby PaulH on Thu May 26, 2011 10:32 pm

Self promotion time - the game i've been working on the last couple of years is out as of Tuesday. It's getting great reviews all around so if you're into racing games, give it a go :)

Here's a trailer:

DiRT 3 looks amazing (going to be getting it soon). I love the turbo flutter and other sounds. Also how the car gets dirtier the more you drive it adds to the realism.

Cheers :) The Michigan Rally tracks and the Smelter Landrush ones are mine, also i did half the Norway Rally and put together the Battersea Gymkhana compound with someone else (the main area i did is the last you unlock, with the double corkscrew ramp).

I also did the first couple of Gymkhana Sprints that you unlock in the career, as well as a couple of the Monaco Gymkhana routes (including the first that you unlock). Then i just did bits and bobs like AI across all of the tracks and some other stuff. So quite a bit on this one!

pre-purchased Dirt 3 1 hour before unlock on steam and got dirt 2 for free.. never played any codemasters racing games except GRID.

It's a really nice game with grapichs and controls, what I don't like on the PC version is windows for live (STEAMWORKS!!), 5 intros when you start the game, fancy animation you have to wait on after each button you click in the menu and when you complete the first 3 traingles in single-player and you get ready for the final then it's all just 5 training courses? lol..

No the training courses are there to prepare you for the final event, a gymkhana at Monaco which you unlock after completing the training

Paul, first off, cool name (I'm called Saul, according to the bible, you are me, in the future).

Also, how does the track editor compare to Hammer? I bet it's not as good, right? Just kidding :p

Either way it looks awesome, played all the DiRTs! Keep up the good work, and whoever chose that trailer music was amazing.

Pre-ordered this a while back. I'm really enjoying it! So glad it's more focused on what made the Colin McRae games great - the rally.
DiRT 2 was really disappointing (and annoying) with all the GNARLY AWESOME DUDEness and it's been toned down to tolerable levels in DiRT 3. The special events like Rally Cross, GymKhana and landrush compliment the rally this time as well, rather than being seemingly the main focus as they were in DiRT 2.

Any chance of more locations being released, perhaps as DLC? I really miss the amazing, terrifying British rally stages of Colin McRae Rally 04. 90mph through dense forest on a windy wee dirt track? Awesome.

Definitely worth buying, folks. Just remember that if you don't buy it, poor PaulH here won't be able to eat. ;)

Haha, tis true I am starving...:) Glad you are enjoying it, there is some dlc out soon with 8 more rally routes taking place in Monte Carlo, bit of classic rally there for you!

We don't actually use a track editor, everything is done in 3d max using custom tools and scripts...all my hammer training is pretty redundant :)

When the fuck is GRID 2 coming out?

That's my favorite Codemasters title.
