Failed to load the launcher DLL

Alright, I've had enough shit and I want some answers. I know I will get the right one here.

When I try to run anything Ep1 based I get this;

"Failed to load the launcher DLL:

The specified procedure could not be found."

I've searched the entire damn internet for the answer and I've found NOTHING. NOTHING that works anything short of a full reinstall that I don't want to do.

I've deleted and re-installed both the SDK Bases.
I've uninstalled Steam, deleted the registry entires, reinstalled and copied the gcfs back over.
I've restarted Steam over and over and over.

Help.

Hmm, my brothers not getting this error, but he's getting something similar. It's to do with the p2pvoice.dll. Steam won't load, and he cannot delete it or anything. He's tried almost everything..

So you got nothing over at Steam Support? I'm surprised they don't have any info on it. If this thread does you no good (goes for the two of you), try making one at the Steam Powered forums. There's bound to be someone there who can help you. I have no clue what could be causing. I hope I don't get it.

The steampowered forums are bullshit, I posted a thread there and the damn thing gets flushed three pages in 24hrs. I searched them and any similar threads have no replies.

I had the same problem, and I posted a thread here. But nobody answered it. I posted on Planetphillip, and nobody answered. Goes to show nobody gives a shit about me. I've already given up, so don't bother answering anyways...

Try deleting everything form the Steam folder EXCEPT SteamApps folder (and its content) and Steam.exe file. This will force Steam to update and recreate all necessary files.

I used to get this problem, and it annoyed the shit out of me. I fixed it by launching the game then trying again. Sounds too easy to work right? worked for me though.

What's your OS, drivers, DX status?

Pretty much everything is up to date; DX9.0c, whatever drivers were available in November last year. I doubt its a driver problem though.

Oh WTF. I just got my reply from the Steam support;

3. I've deleted everything but the Steam.exe and the steamapps folder and let it re-install.
4. I've un-installed Steam, deleted the registry entires, reinstalled and copied the gcfs back over.

Everything has worked since November until around 4 weeks ago when everything broke.

Are you trying to test a map? Try loading it up in the console at the start menu of whatever game you're trying to play, "map_yourmap'sname".

Or you could move on to the OB engine.

had a similar issue yesterday, firing up EP2 as the last step in compiling.
A manual start worked fine though..

When launching the game or launching it from Hammer? Not clear on that.

When launching it from Hammer it often helps to run the game manually and close it, then try.

Also try this,

in the advanced dialog click on the $game_exe line. Click cmds. Click executable. Browse to steam.exe

Under "Parameters" put this:

Code: Select all

-applaunch <steamappid> -dev -console -allowdebug -game $gamedir +map $file

Where <steamappid> is the steamappid of your game. (this may take a few extra seconds than launching the game with $game_exe, but will probably work).
