Google Chrome - New Web Browser

Apparently google is going to release a new web browser TOMORROW!
The bowser is based on the Webkit (the same used by Safari, Nokia S60 phones, Adobe AIR, etc) render engine which passes the acid 2 test. From the screenshots and list of features it seems like it tries to capture the best of the most known browsers, and improve it, having lots of features similar to those found in the new versions of Opera and Firefox.
It also looks really sexy, take a look:

This is NOT fake!

Just looks like another browser clone, there are loads of them out there that use Open Source rendering engines. Unless it can do more than FF I doubt anyone will change.

As it is there are still far too many people using IE6 & 7 let alone FF, not enough web users know that alternative browsers even exist. To them Internet Explorer is the internet.

Just seems to me that Google have got a tough fight on their hands, and let's hope their browser doesn't target ads at what people browse like GMail does with it's email content.

Plus I don't think it looks very nice :?

It's main advantage are not features or compatibility, but a new approach to web page rendering. Each tab will have it's own process, which they expect will improve memory management and stability. They also have some improvements in Java Script execution.

Anyway, I'll believe when I see it.

The look of those buttons (back, refresh, ...) remind me so much of FF. At first i even thought it was a plugin for FF till i reread the title.

Looks like just the bare essentials.

If it's faster than IE I might use it.

I'm using it to post this.
It's damn fast. Really, very, very fast.
Scores a 79 on Acid3 (compared to Firefox 3's 71), which isn't perfect, but it's not as bad as it has been.
More complex pages seem to load 2x faster than FF.

Looks interesting. I'll check it out to see if it's any better than FF.

Yes, I'm using it at the moment and despite my initial negative outlook it definitely appears to render page a lot quicker, which is nice.

Still not quite got the tools I need which I use in FF, but it's a mighty fine first release from Google. Even if it does look like Opera running on Safari ;-)

its a lot faster and lighter than ff2 and ff3 (read: less than half!)
it has DOM inspector and javascript debug console, so everything a webber needs.
i'm in love!

I have to say, the lack of top menus (file, edit, etc) was freaking me out at first, and it still feels kinda 'naked', but...I guess everything I ever needed up there is catered for elsewhere. Can't think of anything I use commonly that's missing. I'd prefer a status bar to see where links are taking me, I don't like the fadey blue bar.

Not 100% sure how I feel about the firefox3-Awesome-Bar clone, in my experience the awesomebar is barely any more use than the old address bar, and I doubt the google chrome 'omnibar' is ever going change the way I browse or save me any time. Also, not sure about the homepage - although it might grow on me eventually, it's a bit rubbish at the moment cos my site usage history isn't balanced out enough, and it feels cumbersome compared to my finely-tuned iGoogle page :)

It is pretty fast, faster than my (rather plugin-bloated) Firefox installation but not by much, it feels. That said, I've yet to properly try it out on an intensive JS-based web-app, which is where it would, it seems, really shine.

I don't see any infrastructure yet for plugins (unless they're somehow going to be handled by Google gears, which would be odd & hard) and I don't like the idea of a plugin-free browser, that's what makes Firefox extra-special; the huge library of excellent plugins.

The biggest problem so far, in my opinion? no f'ing middle mouse drag-scroll. Like Safari for Windows, I can't click my middle-mouse button down and 'cruise' up & down a page. It's annoying my tits off. In fact, even normal mouse-wheel scrolling in unresponsive and jerky...I try and scroll and it often does nothing for a few seconds. Early bug, I'm sure, but irritating enough to stop it being my day-to-day browser.

Yeah, i got that middle mouse button bug too. And text correction feature could have 'turn off' option in settings (it marks 90% of my text, srsly, wtf - first thought it's set for my language, but it's red even more)

I know it's a beta, could have more 'advanced options' though.

Funny that most people think Firefox was the first with that feature, and Chrome copied it, whan in fact Opera had it before Firefox.

It's got to the point where all new browsers have pretty much the same features, even IE8 is going to catch up. If they all just follow web standards and MS somehow delete IE6 & 7 off the face of the earth then my life will be nice and easy. :-)
