Motherboard + RAM

Postby Spike on Mon Feb 16, 2009 8:08 am

I'm going to upgrade my PC and I would want to know a good motherboard (for less than 130 €), Intel socket 775 for an ATI card HD4870.

Also I would want to buy some fast RAM. Thinking on getting 1066 MHz DDR2. Would you buy DDR3 1333 MHz?

Also what are the RAM timings??? Those numbers that look something like that: X-X-X-X?? Which ones are better?

Bit-Tech is your friend. :)

Good Kit:
Expensive Kit:

I wouldn't buy DDR3 RAM at this stage yet, not sure it's worthwhile.
In general, the lower the RAM timings, the better.

Yeah, don't bother with DDR3. It's not worth it. By the way, I've got a Sapphire 1GB 4870 and it's awesome. :)

Thanks. I've 4870 512 MB and it's awesome, problem is I can't play Crysis because the bad RAM (cheap 677 MHz) and sometimes game blocks because the memory.

Have any of you overclocked a 1066 RAM? How much can you overclock it? (my processor is the Q6600)

no point overclocking your ram if the game chockes now, it will do the same at a higher frequency. Esp sicne youll never be able to go a lot higher than your current frequency.

my game chockes because the bad RAM and bad motherboard I have now. Crysis chockes when loading new zones, and a "loading" icon appears at top left screen when there's acction in the game. I don't think it's problem of CPU and graphics card since both are quite good.

I've seen Crysis reviews with OCed Q6600 and stock HD4870 10650x1050 with 40 FPS average, without chockes and running quite smothly. So buying better motherboard and ram should fix it, isn't it?

my c2d e6600, stock speed (a shame according to nerds), and a 8800 gts 320meg, runs Crysis at smooth speeds (ergo > 30) up untill 1280/1024 w/o AA (cant initialize for some reason) and everything on high (higher crashes Crysis, lol). So yes, you should get higher fps.
