Is it possible to use horizontal scrolling to lean in CoD4?

Postby 1447 on Sat Mar 07, 2009 2:01 pm

So, I've gotten into playing CoD4 again, and I've bumped into a small, yet rather annoying problem. As you surely know, the leaning keys in CoD4 are Q and E for left and right. And as you can imagine, leaning right when e.g. reloading or walking right at the same time can be troublesome. And I happen to have a mouse with one of these real fucking modern mousewheels that can scroll sideways (the mouse itself is a Logitech G5), and I was wondering if it's possible to use this horizontal scrolling to lean in CoD4?

I've tried to change the controls ingame of course, but that didn't work. I also tried to write bind MWHEELRIGHT "+leanright" and bind MWHEELLEFT "+leanleft" in the mp_config.cfg, but that didn't work either.

So, is this possible at all?

Didn't work.

I do. Hey, it's damn useful for peeking around corners when trying to spot people. In most cases, you see them before they see you. And in case you need cover, it's just a matter of releasing a key, and you're safe.

It'll probably only be useful to you if you scroll with your middle finger, make sure you already have the habit of doing that otherwise it'd be nearly useless.

Lawl, I guess you're right, I didn't even think of that. Fuck me :<

But I still want to know if it's possible, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear it.

If you use setpoint it's not a problem:

on mouse settings click on left scroll (on mine it's number 7) and under select task click on keystroke assignment and tell the keystroke to be q. Then do the same thing for right scroll and tell it to be e. then just make sure those are bound in the game settings and you're good to go. It's not really helpful, btw. I've tried it and it's less intuitive than you'd think.

P.S. setpoint is sort of a bitch, so it may screw with some of your games in other ways. I use my mouse 5 button for my mic, but for some reason, it won't let me hold it down to keep talking. This is only for valve games like L4D and I have no idea why it does that so I had to create a separate profile for that game and do a keystroke assignment workaround.

Well, it worked (yay), but as previously pointed out, it was pretty useless ingame. But let's look at the bright side, IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!
