Hard drive problem

Postby Emazing on Sun Mar 08, 2009 12:02 am

So this is a pretty obscure problem I'm guessing. I run a dual boot system (XP/Vista). One of my partitions no longer shows up in Vista, but it is visible and accessible in XP. I can see the partition in Vista's disk management, but if I try to view the partitions properties or assign it a drive letter, it gives me an error about needing to refresh the view.

I did run this program called Partition Magic while in XP, and it gave me some kind of error about the partition tables being wrong. I picked to fix them and I'm guessing this is what caused the drive to stop working in Vista.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix it?

That's a hard one.. maybe you can take a look/fix it with the gparted live cd?
I've used it to redefine/shift around and fix various partitioning problems. (also in dual boot situations - XP/Ubuntu)

Maybe you could try to run Partition Magic under Vista. And then look if you can restore/fix the thing that is wrong.

And otherwise using a live cd/dvd/usb[?] with gparted could also fix it.
