CPU Cooling

Postby Bema on Thu Mar 19, 2009 5:00 pm

My fan just failed. Like literally. It no longer moves. Probably shouldn't have avoided the warnings. :wink:

Anyway - I was thinking of just re-ordering the set up that broke (Cooler Master Hyper 212 - it lasted a good while) but thought i'd stop by here to get any lovely suggestions from you guys. Plus it's a bitch to take off, and re-attach to the motherboard so I want to avoid it.

Running P5N-E mobo with a Q6600 processor. Money isn't exactly an object here. I'm looking to get a decent fan that'll last me a while longer.

So you should buy yourself a new CPU FAN.

.. "Fan Dimension (W / H / D) 120 x 120 x 25 mm" ..

I think the GodHand CPU fan will be sufficient for your system.

J/K of course.

Solutions;
- buy a new cpu cooler
- buy a new fan

Some companies who make good stuff.

Aye - my first instinct was to just get a new fan, but in order to unscrew the current fan i'd have to dis-assemble the heatsink and remove the motherboard (epic inconvenient). If im going that far I figured I might aswell consider a different set up. Thanks for the suggestions Delta.

np.

Also don't forget to buy yourself some proper "thermal compound" [didn't knew what the English word is/was, so I took this one..]

For example;

good lord. who the hell can fit that in a computer?
jk.
I would go with Zalman, definitely. Their coolers are the way to go. I have not seen many negative comments about them.

Honestly, I doubt those beasts are much (if any) more effective than something smaller. The heat will be dissapated long before eat reaches the far end of the fins. Liquid cooling would be cooler and cooler. lawls.

I just was lalling here :P, peltier cooling [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoelectric_effect] is by far the best cooling available.

Is the peltier effect strong enough to cool a CPU though? I imagine with a significant amount of current you might be able to. Of course the power supply would suffer. Hrmmm.
