IE 8 Releases Today

Postby Blink on Thu Mar 19, 2009 5:06 pm

So, after a looong development IE8 is finally out.

It's good that MS have made an effort at last, but I feel personally that it's too little too late. For developers like myself it's still miles behind everyone else in that it doesn't even support CSS3 yet, which is lame.

If you're computer savvy you're most likely gonna be using anything but IE and if you're not you'll probably carry on with IE6 and 7 unless forced to upgrade.

Will be interesting to see how well it is adopted.

I have too much faith in humanity that hopefully everyone has or is close to upgrading to Firefox. It is infinitely superior to IE. Really, no joke.

I mean, look at the site:

"Making your web faster, easier and safer." -Ya, Firefox did that... Oh, since it came out...

They also now wired it more into the Live network... Can't I get a Firefox add on to do that?

Oh, and look. They finally added site warnings for malicious sites. How long has Firefox done that?

I must sound like the biggest Mozilla fanboy, but common. They do do a way better job.
I mean, the only browser that doesn't suck next to Firefox MIGHT be Opera. Maybe.

Lastly, I laughed so hard at this quote:

"nPrivate Browsing

Browse the web without saving your history with Internet Explorer 8's InPrivate Browsing. Now you can shop for that special gift with confidence knowing your family won't accidentally find out or use a shared computer without leaving a trace."

Riiiiight... Shopping... Definitely what people are going to use that for...
"Hello, again, and welcome to the Interlopers Enrichment Center. Your account has been proccesed. Please proceed into 'section name, here' and we will start the test...

I just downloaded it to test it. IE8 seems a lot better, on the evidence that my own website doesn't look like a pile of shit with elements all over the place like it did in IE7. However I'm still going to have to implement compatibility for people who can't be bothered to upgrade from IE7 and don't know what the fuck a Firefox is.

IE8 will be optional in Windows 7, but yeah currently they ship the betas with it. The difference between IE7 and IE8 isn't noticeable as far as I can tell. I prefer Chrome anyway.

Now you can quickly display websites that were designed for older browsers. If you’re looking at a page and the text or images aren’t lined up right, just use the new Compatibility View button next to the Refresh button on the Address Bar.

hahahahaha

You've gone incognito. Pages you view in this window won't appear in your browser history or search history, and they won't leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be preserved, however.

Going incognito doesn't affect the behavior of other people, servers, or software. Be wary of:
Websites that collect or share information about you
Internet service providers or employers that track the pages you visit
Malicious software that tracks your keystrokes in exchange for free smileys
Surveillance by secret agents
People standing behind you
Learn more about incognito browsing

Google Chrome ftw. On track, my only comment to IE8 is oh boy not another one....

Exactly, IE should be wiped from the face of the earth and windows should include firefox by default but we'll never convince MS to do that

Or... google has a sense of humor?

As for a new edition of IE. What a waste of human resources. All their 'new' features, ha! Especially the security ones. Anyone who uses IE might as well not even have a firewall. Security features in IE. That's like telling your kids to not play with fire.
