Apple "Media Pad"?

Postby Mr. Happy on Tue Apr 28, 2009 10:41 am

Been seeing a bunch of articles over my iGoogle talking about Apple negotiating a deal with Verizon. Seems sources say that there is going to be an iPhone Lite and a "Media Pad."

After getting over my unreasonable hate of Apple I decided I wanted an iPhone bad, but I really like Verizon. Now there's the idea of this "media pad" thing, and with Verizon about to roll out their 4G I'm thinking this media pad thing sounds like a multi-touch keyboard-free tablet PC or netbook, which is something I've been dreaming about.

Anyone else eager to see what they have in store?

Don't get it
Apple has to be the worst company to buy from
For example when the iphone came out it was like $800 then they drop the price to like $300 in a couple a months ( I think )
It really has me wondering why people are retard enough to buy Apple products
Less product for more money

Apparently people like the design and the promotion. And the idea of "having Apple products."
You can say what you want but apple has made the mp3-player more common to the tech-nitwits.
And those people buy their products, mostly people who aren't really searching for other alternatives.
aka. Why a iPhone and not a HTC Touch HD?

Apple is just a company who is good in designing and promoting their stuff.

rlslog.net wrote:Apple’s new iPod Shuffle has had a bit of controversy, ranging from its lack of physical buttons, restricted headphones, to the sheer (lack of) size of the device. This, certainly, isn’t going to provide any good free advertising either. According to BusinessWeek, the latest iteration of Apple’s smallest iPod only costs a mere $22 to create, but how much does it retail for? $79. That’s right, you’re being charged almost an extra $60 to own one of these tiny creations, which to some people is an amount that is unacceptable. The main application chip of the Shuffle, which runs music controlling and other functions, is worth $5.98.

To quote iSuppli analyst Andrew Rassweiler, “It’s almost like six dollars worth of flash memory tied to some flash and a battery and not much else. It’s very basic and downsized.” As the BusinessWeek article states, “All told, the cost of the shuffle’s components, the headphones, and the packaging it ships in comes to $21.77, according to iSuppli’s estimates.” This suggests that, as many people assume, if the markup on this is that high, then others will be the same. For example, for the first iPod touch, manufacturing costs were $147 whereas retail prices were $299.

But would you want a tablet the size of a cellphone?

Or a cellphone the size of a tablet?

Well I don't like their computers and I certainly don't like their pricing, branding, "culture," etc.

BUT, the iPhone despite it's flaws is still in my opinion the best. There is some loss of functionality but the user interaction and the simple fact that the entire thing just about is a touch screen make up for that. From a practical point of view laptops really aren't very portable and cell phones/pda's really don't have a large enough screen/interfact capability.

I respect Apple as a successful company, and I really think they are very good at marketing their products.

However, I don't like their products and the fact that 99% of the university population has iFones, iDopes, and McBooks. And the reason is that there are plenty of things better or at least equal, for a lower price - but no, say the hipster population, iPhones are soo different 'cause they are totally Apple and they look good. I guess that it isn't even the products themselves that annoy me, but the ignorance of the general population.

There was also an occasion where I was in a computer store in Germany (come to think of it, GERMANY! Where Apple is not as much overhyped as in US or Canada) I heard an employee telling some girl that some Mac was better than some PC. And she obviously believed him since she didn't know anything about computers. I read the specs later, they were almost identical, but the Mac was almost twice as expensive. I know, business is business, the employee's job is to sell the most expensive product, but garrrr.

And yes, I've used Macs, and I used the iPhone, so I do have the other perspective.

I've been thinking of getting an iTouch, it has all the abilities of an iPhone (The Apps, music and movies) without the phone which I probably wouldn't be able to get anyway. Does anyone own one and have any comments on it?

I've got one (first gen, so slightly fatter and no built-in mic), and I still love it. Brilliant user interface and features, and the app store means that you'll never run out of things to do with it.

I really want an iTouch bad. Trust me, I HATE Apple with a burning passion, but god damn the sexy touch screen interface with loads of nifty games makes my 1st gen Zune look like it's from the fucking stone age.

I own a Zune 120 Gb
Today I was watching Batman Begins on it and kid with his Ipod touch was like "Why would you buy a Zune?"
I gave him a smirk and said, "How much was your Ipod touch?"
He said, "200 bucks"
I then said "And how many gigabytes of storage does it have?"
He said "8GB"
I of course replied with, "Oh, mines 120GB and it costed that amount too"
He then had a weird look on him like that wasn't possible
That really has me wondering does anybody research anything before they jump on a bandwagon?

I know it's only 8 (Which dissapoints me because I actually have 120 gigs of music) But it's just so sexy D:

And no, no one does research anymore.

Well I've done research on the touch and Zune and I'd rather have the touch because of the games and apps. I'd be getting the 32 GB one so I'd be able to have a few movies and shows on there along with my music plus the fancy apps. I wouldn't even watch videos on it much so that's not a big problem for me.
