the only downside ive found so far for windows 7 is that linksys hasnt made any compatible drivers for my wireless lan card. Without it, i cant really test, cause thats where the internetz comes from.

Yes you can. Mount the ISO file in your favorite program and start the setup, it'll work just fine.

Also, upgrading from the RC to retail should be possible with some tampering with the DVD.

Only 2 more days till RC releases to general public. Am I to assume you all subscribe to MSDN or TechNet Plus? :smt018

j/k. Not like I care. I'd personally just rather wait the few days than do something unethical - and potentially risky.

Microsoft wrote:
IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows 7 Beta you’ll need to back up your data (preferably on an external device) and then do a clean install of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. After installing Windows 7, you will need to reinstall applications and restore your files. If you need help with the installation process, please see the Installation Instructions.

If you’re running Windows Vista, you can install Window 7 RC without having to back up and reinstall your programs and data. But to be on the safe side, please do backup your data before you start.

Was in an email Microsoft sent me.

How... stupid. Does it reformat to the change the FS or something?

Downloading right now, will take 3 h though :?

But I just noticed that I have only 3 Gb left on my C drive and about 40 Gb left on my D drive. So do you know if it has to be insalled on the C drive or it will work on the D drive as well :?:

I got Vista on my C drive.

The drive letters mean nothing outside of Windows. So if you were to install Windows 7 onto what Vista sees as the D:\ drive, you should be fine. :)

Under 7 your drives will look like this...

  • C:\ (This is your Windows 7 installation, the same drive that Vista labels as the D:\ drive)
  • D:\ (This is your Vista installation)

...and back in Vista, like this...

  • C:\ (This is your Vista installation)
  • D:\ (This is your Windows 7 installation)

I'm running RC1 now and it's pretty damn swish. It seems quicker and responsive plus there's lots of funky wallpapers.

Oh, and guess what, alas! Windows Key + E opens up My Computer just as it always should of done. :D

THat totally explains why Windows 7 runs on F:\ :smt023

j/k (on the sarcasm, its really installed on F:\)

BSOD's are still ugly as hell tho. You'd think they AERO'd them as well.

Some noticeable differences from build 7000.

Really like this OS, I think it will finally start converting some of the XP users who were skeptical of Vista.

If you haven't tried out Windows 7 I recommend taking a peek at the new RC.
