new computer concerns

Postby Ryder2394 on Tue Jun 09, 2009 9:55 pm

So after 5 years I finally got a new computer, a million times faster, has Windows 7 and all that good stuff. However, now I'm worried about CPU temperatures. A wire appeared to have gotten in the way of the CPU fan at first, the temps idled out at 73°C. I popped open the case and did some more housecleaning. My CPU core temps now idle at 35°C. They seem to jump up to like 45-49°C when a process uses 90% CPU. I may sound like a n00blet, but this is my first PC build and I'm not sure of this stuff. Is this normal behavior? The processor is a Wolfdale E6300 Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.80GHz. Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

Just for comparison I have a Phenom 9950 BE inside an Antec 900 and mine ranges 28 to 40 C with a relatively cool room temperature.

Thanks for helping , Psy. My old processor was prone to overheating and idled out at 60°C after some usage. So I'm not really sure what's acceptable for a decent computer.

Pff. I remember when I installed my quad-core and left one of the hinges of the fan slightly loose. It would idle at 80 degrees. oops! :D
